Listened to Mott recently and began reminiscing on some early youth glam albums I played to death.  Thought it would be interesting to see if others enjoyed these.  I tried to pick bands that were not on PA as some of the glam type artists are in here, like some of Bowie's, Queen, and others.

Not sure which one I will pick yet as they were all favorites.  There were other glam bands of that era that I enjoyed but did not list here.  If other, let us know what they were.

I can't look beyond BDB - the first album I ever bought and still one of my favourites.

^ ^ Yes, Billion Dollar Babies is one I still listen to and enjoy and is probably my favorite of the list, but I really got into the Mott album also, it is a tossup for those 2 for me.  I will give the vote to Mott since it has no votes yet.

Thought of some others that I listened to then, NY Dolls was one and Slade was another.

I never really considered Mott The Hoople as a glam rock band in much the same was as The Stranglers weren't a punk rock band, though both were "guilty by association" I guess, ("hod carriers in drag" was a description of them wearing satin suits that springs to mind) but then this poll isn't about which was the best glam rock album or who was the most glam.

Oddly, none of the albums listed are my favourite of the glam era from each of the artists (those would be The Hoople, Sweet FA, School's Out and Electric Warrior) so I voted for Desolation Boulevard because the hard rock tracks are far better than the Chin/Chap hit singles they had to record ... a surprising stand-out track for me is The Man With The Golden Arm as normally I shy away from 8 minute drum solos but I rate Mick Tucker as up there with the finest drummers of the 1970s.

Voted for T. Rex because I had a major crush on Marc Bolan when I was 14.  Also I like the album.

I think Mott the Hoople were guilty by association too, I always thought of them as post-glam, pre-punk or something like that.  I did like The Hoople nearly the same as I did Mott, I guess because I owned Mott back then, so there was more nostalgia to me since a buddy owned The Hoople and we would swap albums since we were poor as dirt...Smile

I have heard, but not really confirmed that Sweet's Desolation Boulevard had a different track list in the European release than the States release...not sure if it is true or not.

Alice Cooper's Love it to Death or Killer (and even School's Out). They started to get too commercial on Billion Dollar Babies.

BDB is a bit patchy compared to the run of rock-solid albums that preceded it, nonetheless, when it's on--"Hello Hooray," "Generation Landslide," the title track, "Elected"--it's really on. Thumbs Up

Generation Landslide is definitely the best song off that album. "The Colgate invisible shield finally got 'em!"

Mott - the reluctant glam band.
I like to feel the suspense when you're certain you know I am there.....

I picked The Sweet, but Alice comes in at a very close second.
Thank you for supporting independently produced music

Wow, it is different.  CD list I have is:

"Ballroom Blitz"  – 4:07
"The 6-Teens"  – 4:06
"No You Don't"  – 4:36
"A.C.D.C."  – 3:28
"I Wanna Be Committed"  – 3:14
"Sweet F.A."  – 6:16
"Fox on the Run"  – 3:28
"Set Me Free"  – 3:59
"Into the Night"  – 4:25
"Solid Gold Brass"  – 5:35

Now I am interested in the Man With the Golden Arm song you mentioned since I have not heard that before.  Lady Starlight was on their "Give Us a Wink" album here.

From that list I prefer Mott as an album.....Cooper had several great songs from his album ....but overall I would favor Roxy Music as my favorite glam rock band from the early to mid 70's.
I never got into Bolan and T Rex...not sure what he was trying to be ...he came from a psych folk background which I preferred over his later trip. Never listened to Sweet.
One does nothing yet nothing is left undone.
