Here we go again.

I'm A Conservative - Iggy Pop (The Heritage Collection) - 6/10 Good at first but just kept going.

I Will Rock And Roll With You - Johnny Cash (The Legend) - 6/10 This is a strange mix so far.

Feels Good To Me - Bruford (Feels Good To Me) - 7/10 Brufords solo albums can take some getting used to, but I gotta love when they add something so simple as clapping to highly complex songs.

Welcome To The Machine - Pink Floyd (Wish You Were Here) - 10/10 bum bum bum gonna be going through my head all day. In all seriousness this has to be one of the best Stereo songs ever created.

Up On The Ground - Quatermass (Quatermass) - 7.5/10 Nice duo keyboard hard rocking blues prog, though they got nothing on Rare Bird.

Rubin and Cherise - Jerry Garcia Band (Cats Under The Stars) - 8.5/10 Great horns, great lyrics, lots of emotion, all with a slight progressive edge.

Take The Money And Run - The Steve Miller Band (Fly Like An Eagle) - 9/10 Yeah Yeah I know, still a great song.

Police In Helicopter - John Holt - 7.5/10 Some good old repetitive reggae.

It Wasn't Me - Lou Reed/John Cale (Songs For Drella) - 7/10 For the most part John saves the song with his mad piano skills.

Give Me Another Chance - Big Star (#1 Record) - 7/10 Alex Chilton's voice can be good or bad, in this song it leans more towards the bad, but not bad enough to ruin the song.

Whats The Use - The Pretty Things (Parachute) - 7/10 Good harmonies, as always with this band.

Cold As Ice - Foreigner - 8/10 A lot put into this song for a radio hit. Good structure very Brian Wilsony.

Hot Fun - Stanley Clarke (School Days) - 8/10 OK now we got funk. This mix can't get anymore random.

Jeanie - Sweet (Funny How Sweet Co-Co Can Be) - 6/10 Like the banjo.

Salvation - Elton John (Honky Chateau) - 8/10 You can do no wrong with the bass and drums in any Elton John song. But seriously I need something a little more progressive or I'm gonna go bonkers.

German Days - Iggy Pop (Post Pop Depression) - 8.5/10 The best Iggy's released in a while.

Voice Of The Moon - Anoushka Shankar (Rise) - 9.5/10 Yeah buddy! Nothin like a little Raga to stir up your afternoon.

The View - Modest Mouse (Good News For The People Who Love Bad News) - 9/10  Really good. Bunch of weird sh*t going on in this tune.

Heather Carpets - Rick Wakeman (Country Airs) - 7/10 Nice piano only song.

Ogue - Camel (The Single Factor) - 6/10 Camel's worst album, what a Great way to end this mix.

Hopefully next time I won't get a bunch of random pop songs.

This is a fun thread!

1) The Knife (live) - Genesis 9.5/10, very strong start, 1973's Live is by some distance my fav Genesis album, one highlight after another.
2) Jailbird - Primal Scream 4/10, quite uninteresting off the shelf rock
3) Ashes to Ashes - David Bowie 10/10, wow what a start, now my fav Bowie song, legendary.
4) Symphony no. 13/ V. a career - Dmitry Shostakovich 7/10, good and interesting though not very memorable, very nice and surprising end.
5) Numbers 1 to 4 - Penguin Cafe Orchestra 7/10, slow and calm and nice.
6) L'age delicieux (la revolucion perenne) - Un Festin Sagital 8.5/10, good RIO music, a jungle of sounds, very dark.
7) Tziidall Raszhisst - Koenji Hyakkei 8/10, my first shot at Zeuhl apart from Magma themselves, what a crazy braintwister; you've got to be in the mood.
8) In all the wrong places - Ulrich Schnauss 5/10, new agey electronics.
9) Rubato, molto agitato - Gyoergy Kurtag 6/10, contemporary avantgarde, very short.
10) Kitchen Sink - Amon Tobin 9/10, very cool rhythmic electronic sound experiments; prog fans may love this.
11) Running Hard (live) - Renaissance 9.5/10, epic, one of the greats.
12) Prelude for clarinet solo - Krzysztof Penderecki 6.5/10, it's hard for a clarinet solo piece to appeal to me but it's alright.
13) Vandalusia - Robert Wyatt 6.5/10, very good meditative song somewhat ruined by the annoyingly static keyboard sound.
14) Firebirds - Art Zoyd 8/10, ah, the masters! Works better surrounded by the whole album though; not enough time to really dive into their sound.
15) Don't you worry 'bout a thing - Stevie Wonder 8/10, there's quite something going on in this song!
16) Auf einem grasüberwachsenen Bahndamm (On a railway embankment) - Heiner Goebbels, Heiner Mueller 6/10, short interlude from great experimental concept album "Der Mann im Fahrstuhl".
17) Jackals and Vipers in Envy of Man, Part 2 - Sixtoo 7/10, short instrumental with great groove and electronic sound alchemy
18) Jumbleo Palipsest - Turn On 6/10, relaxed electronic, sounds very nice but not much substance.
19) Offertoria: Iustitiae Domini - Nova Schola Gregoriana, Alberto Turco 7/10, Gregorian chants now, rating this is a bit of a joke really.
20) Symphony No.1 - I. Allegretto, con grazia - Werner Henze 7.5/10, this mix is quite heavy on "contemporary classics", atmospheric, works well.

Lots of people saying this is a "Fun" thread!  agreed. Didn't think people were going to do it more than once, but guess I shouldn't be surprised.

I remember when it was posted last time (2011 or so?), it was a monthly thing (eg, "March Shuffle", "april shuffle", etc.). I kept looking forward to the next month so I could do it again.  Overall, though, there weren't many responders. I think the site has grown significantly since then.  May post another one for next month.

I can well imagine doing it again and not even wait one month but let's see. I generally like to get the surprises of playing things at random (and I have much of my collection on a Vortexbox including a choice of the best about 1/3 of LPs and tapes that I either digitised myself or bought in digital form). Rating and commenting makes me appreciate the random selection more. I also like to skim through what others write. Keep on shuffling!

I love shuffling. I'm always astounded by how good the music is in my collection, and what amazing tastes the owner of such a collection surely has.:)

Going again. Artist first formatting is more natural to me, so artist first, song second.

1. News from Babel - Anno Mirabilis. Awesome, socialist song sung by Dagmar Krause (9/10)
2. Urban Sax and Pierre Henry - Flight. Haven't heard this one in quite a while, though Paradise Lost is a great album. Excellent track in the context of the album, but as a stand alone (6/10).
3. Korekyojinn - Exodus. Good, but just not at all in the mood (4/10)
4. Extradition - I Feel the Sun. This band and album came up the last time, Pretty, but very short (6/10)
5. William Sheller -Opus Magnum (Part One) Now we're really talking. I adore this album and this track is fantastic. It's psychy rock meets classical music and choral music. Love it. (10/10)
6. Lobster Newberg - Hidden Track. Very good, but short so easier to hide (7/10)
7. Can - Bring Me Coffee or Tea. It's like rediscovering this song all over again. Love it (10/10)
8. Hoyry-Kone - Huono Parturi Love the album, but not a particular favourite track (6/10)
9. Haruomi Hosono / Tadanori Yokoo - Hum Ghar Sajan. Love Cochin Moon, but nota partiaulr favourite (6/10)
10. Coma - Finanial Tycoon 2. Very good jazzy blues rock. (7/10)
11. ZNR - Chanson Triste... Very pretty guitar and violin or viola piece (9/10)
12. Kotebel - Joropo. One of the few modern symph-categorized bands I really like, but some rather poor sounding symphs to my ear (7/10)
13. Etron Fou Leloublan - Histoire de graine. Pretty good RIO, but not in the mood at all (3/10)
14. Magma - Stoah Off my favourite Magma album, the first. Good, but not great as a stand-alone (7/10)
15. Mandingo - Moon Goddess. Mandingo is one of my very favourite bands. Jazzy and soulful. Short, but still (10/10)
16. Wolfgang Dauner - Output. In part experimental and noisy, but I like it (7/10)
17. Cos - Achile. I adore Cos, as a stand alone, this gets (7/10)
18. Hellebore - Artefact. Great album, good song (8/10)
19. Stringtronics - Afro Sambo. I play this album so very much and never tire of it. Funkyish tropica with classical overtones. (9/10)
20. Art Zoyd - Etat Urgence. Love Art Zoyd, and this is quite the track (9/10)

Absolutely Free - Frank Zappa (Were Only in it For the Money - 8/10 Hilarious take on the hippie culture, and at the same time, a really cool psychedelic track!

Vera - Pink Floyd (The Wall) - 4/10 Kind of just a transitional track, not great

Evil Woman - ELO (Face the Music) - 6/10 Yeah, still a strong one! Good percussion.

Starman - David Bowie (Ziggy Stardust) - 9.5/10 Remember seeing everyone in London singing this together the day he died. Always has been a favorite for me

Flash - Queen (Best of) - 6.75/10 As I mentioned before, Queen isn't one of my favorite bands. But this song has some sort of a progressive feel that I like

Time Will Crawl - David Bowie (Never Let Me Down) - 7/10 Love the sax!

Cut the Cake - Average White Band (Best of) - 6/10 Yeah...this is one of the first songs I ever purchased that my mom showed me. It's a pretty fun song

Anyway, Anyhow, Anywhere - The Who (Best of) - 8/10 Always loved this track for it's wild middle section

Wish Me Well - Procol Harum (Shine on Brightly) - 5/10 Probably the weakest from this album, but still a strong bluesy track

Soul Kitchen - The Doors (The Doors) - 7/10 Love the bass in this one

Only the Good Die Young - Billie Joel (The Stranger) - 5/10 I'm kind of more in a prog mood right now, not something like this. But it's got an upbeat feel to it

Thick as a Brick (Part 1) - Jethro Tull (Thick as a Brick) - 9.5/10 Guess my prey for mor prog was answered by the ipod gods. Of course, this is outstanding music, very dramatic and light hearted at the same time

Abadab - Genesis (Abacab) - 7.5/10 Who says Phil Collins isn't good?

One Song Glory - No Idea (Rent Soundtrack) - 1/10 The only reason I have this on my ipod is for a play audition. I do not like this song, it brings back bad memories, it's not good, I'm going to delete it ASAP, thank you very much

Bastille Day - Rush (Caress of Steel) - 7.75/10 Great early Rush song, always just makes me feel happy

Join Together - The Who (Best of) - 9/10 One of my top 5 who songs for sure, so perfect in every way, love singing along!

Shine on You Crazy Diamond (Parts 1 - 5) - Pink Floyd (Wish You Were Here) - 6/10 I really don't get the attention towards this track, I find it okay, but just really overrated. The last nine parts are a bit better too

Scrutinzier Postlude - Frank Zappa (Joe's Garagd) - 3/10 not even a song, but still better than One Song Glory. Also, really funny monologue!

Incense and Pepperments - Strawberry Alarm Clock (60's Gold) - 7/10 Love these kind of songs!

Cygnus X-1 - Rush (A Farewell to Kings) - 8/10 Such cool guitar, love how Geddy Lee screams about going into a black hole

OK, here I go at last. I hadn't taken the time to make a shuffle for this. I can't expect any songs with low rating to come in because I only have songs I really like on my library.
1. Colonial Boy - Devin Townsend (The Retinal Cicus). 8.5/10 Nice DT song, not among my very top, though.
2. Iberia Sumergida - Heroes del Silencio (Avalancha). 10/10 One of my favourite songs from the pop/rock movement of the late 80's and 90's.
2. Northumbrian - Mike Oldfield (Incantations bonus track). 8.5/10 Beautiful short simple song. Not among his epic masterpieces, though.
3. Cross Eyed Mary - Jethro Tull (Live: Bursting Out). 10/10 As with most of my favourite Jetrho Tull songs, I love the live versions much better than the original studio ones. This one is not an exception.
4. Drive Home - Steven Wilson (The Raven that Refused to Sing). 9/10 A wonderful song from one of the most recent masterpieces of the genre.
5. Status Seeker - Dream Theater (When Dream and Day Reunite). 8/10 Nice song from their debut, though a bit annoying. I thought LaBrie singing it should have helped improve it, but not really.
6. Euphoria - Alpha Ville (Prostitute). 9/10 Very enjoyable pop atmospheric song, with a nice catchy ending.
7. Locomotive Breath / The Dambusters March (Live: Bursting Out) - Jethro Tull (Live Burstin Out). 9.5 / 10 Another masterpiece from Jethro Tull, live once again. Though this one I prefer on the Montreux version.
8. Sentinel - Mike Oldfield (Tubular Bells 2). 9.5 / 10 Wonderful music, of course, too bad it's a rehash from his first "hit" (as is just about the whole album).
9. Felona - Le Orme (Felona e Sorona). 8 / 10 One of the lesser songs from this wonderful album, but still a very nice pop song. They got better and proggier stuff on the rest of the album.
10. Minstrel in the Gallery - Jethro Tull (Live: Bursting Out). 9.5/10 This Shuffle list seems to be in a Jethro Tull mode this time around... even more son in a Bursting Out mode. Another great song that I love even better live... even if it's shorter than the original one (it's not often that I prefer shortened versions of songs, but Jethro Tull have a few with this characteristic).
11. Sailor's Tale - King Crimson (Islands). 9/10 A tipical "noisy" King Crimson instrumental. Wonderful song, of course, though they have better ones of this sort.
12. Weather - Iamthemorning (~). 9/10 Beautiful music, beautiful vocals, beautiful piano... just as with most of the songs from this wonderful new band.
13. High Water - Rush (Hold your Fire). 8.5/10 They have better songs, even among their 80's pop phase.
14. Roots to Branches - Jethro Tull (Living with the Past). 8.5/10 Another Jethro Tull one!!! I swear I don't have such a large amount of Jethro Tull in my list... I have much more Pink Floyd and Yes, and they haven't popped up here yet. However, one of the good songs from their post 70's releases, but still not close as good as their best days.
15. Ángel Eléctrico - Soda Stereo (Comfort y Música para Volar). 9/10 Another from the pop/rock great ones in spanish (what happened to this sort of artists in the mainstream radio nowdays). Great song, but Soda Stereo has better ones.
17. Epitaph - King Crimson (In the Court of the Crimson King). 20/10 OK, this may be an exageration, but really one of my favourite prog songs (well, songs in general, any genre). And one of my favourite vocal performances, and one of my favourite songs for the emotional element (and it's got nothing to do with love).
18. It's Breaking me up - Jethro Tull (This Was). 8.5/10 Some Bluesy early Jethro Tull... the first studio one from Jethro Tull that comes in the list... and I believe a live version of this one would have been great.
19. The Islander - Nightwish (Dark Passion Play). 9/10 I love some folky stuff, and this one is beautiful indeed, even if not really representative of the band.
20. I let the Music Speak - ABBA (The Visitors). 9/10 I guess not among their very greatest hits, but still a catchy and very good song.

  1. Gaza - Marillion (Sounds That Can't Be Made) - 7/10 A few pieces of this 17 min song had me convinced, but for the most part its just trying to hard.
  2. The Undercover Man - Van Der Graaf Generator (Godbluff) - 10/10 I feel I don't need to explain myself.
  3. Beulah Land - Mississippi John Hurt (The Complete Studio Recordings) - 8/10  Timeless mellow acoustic blues.
  4. The Other Song - Spirit (Son Of Spirit) - 5/10 horrid album by spirit, that is terribly produced. Funny, cause 12 Dreams Of Dr. Sardonicus has an amazing production.
  5. Across The Border - ELO (Out Of The Blue) - 7/10 This whole album has a nice western tone to it. This song... maybe a bit too much.
  6. Paths Of Victory - The Byrds (20 Essential Tracks From The Boxed Set) - 7.5/10 Nice song with banjo.
  7. Shine A Light - Kevin Ayers (Unfairground) - 8.5/10 This guy is criminally underrated on this site. Kevin Ayers and Robert Wyatt always sound great together.
  8. Cosmic Wheels - Donovan (Cosmic Wheels) - 7.5/10 Used to love Donovan and this song is pretty good.
  9. Mind Movie (Vogel) - Secret Oyster (Sea Son) - 9/10 I need to get more from this band.
  10. Be Thou My Vision - Van Morrison (Hymns To The Silence) - 7.5/10 Decent. Nice Irish, Celtic feel.
  11. Mr. Airplane Man - Howlin' Wolf (Howlin' Wolf The Chess Box) - 7/10 Mo' blues.
  12. Glad Tidings - Van Morrison (Moondance) - 10/10 Classic.
  13. The Continental - Steve Howe (The Steve Howe Album) - 8/10 Howe embraces his love for honky tonk.
  14. Cerberus - Amon Duul II (Yeti) - 8/10 Some nice apocalypse folk.
  15. Big Ten Inch Record - Aerosmith (Toys In The Attic) - 7.5/10 Good. Haven't heard this band in ages.
  16. Freewill - Rush (Permanent Waves) - 9.5/10 Alex rips on this song.
  17. I Walk The Line (Revisited) With (Rodney Cromwell) - Johnny Cash (The Legend) - 5.5/10 Pretty damn hokey.
  18. Highway Chile - The Jimi Hendrix Experience (Are You Experienced?) - 5/10 Theirs very few Jimi Hendrix songs I can listen to, this not being one of them.
  19. Time Operator - Scott Walker (Boy Child) - 5/10 This mix is taking a disastrous turn.
  20. I Was Meant For The Stage - The Decemberists (Her Majesty) - 7.5/10 Good mellow tune with an unpredictable ending.

Per Un Amcio - PFM (Per Un Amico) - 8/10 Beautiful piece, has such great melodies, the ending really brings it all together. The strings are really interesting.

Time to Kill - U.K (U.K) - 6/10 Pretty fun track but better when combined with Alaska. Also, can be pretty repetitive due i the annoying bass line in the solo

Two of Us - Supertramp (Crisis? What Crisis?) - 7/10 A swan song, and also a love song. Very sweet lyrics.

Love Ain't For Keeping - The Who (Who's Next) - 8.75/10 I forgot about this one! I love this song, it has great harmonies and guitar work

Seven Seas of Rhye - Queen (Queen II) - 7.75/10 Good song, the guitar solo is really cool, and I like when the guitar kind of fades in the middle of the song

Sax and Violins - Talking Heads (Until The End Of The World Soundtrack) - 9/10 Outstanding, the atmosphere is so cool and the background effects and the xylophone make this song really pretty and weird

Hey Bulldog - The Beatles (Yellow Submariene) - 8/10 This shows that The Beats have edge! Especially with such great guitar work! I also really like the yelling at the end

Happy - The Rolling Stones (Exile On Main Street) - 6.75/10 Used to really like this one, but heard it several times now

Fembot in a Wet T-Shirt - Frank Zappa (Joe's Garage) - 7.5/10 This song is really crazy and weird with it's xylophone and then the ending conversation is so funny. One of my favs!

Who Loves the Sun - The Velvet Undergroud (Loaded) - 7/10 The harmonies are great and I love when the chorus changes towards the end of the song

Work for Yuda - Frank Zappa (Joe's Garage) - 4/10 The weakest song from Joe's Garage

In the Flesh? - Pink Floyd (The Wall) - 8/10 Perfect intro for this album. The guitar is so intense and puts you at a dark atmosphere right away

Poles Apart - Pink Floyd (The Division Bell) - 8.5/10 Really overlooked, the keyboard part is outstanding

Wild Honey Pie - The Beatles (White Album) - 6/10 Honey Pie! Honey Pie!

I Am A Rock - Simon and Garfunkel (Best of) - 9/10 One of my past favorites. The guitar work is pretty great

Doctor Robert - The Beatles (Revolver) - 5/10 More Beatles? This one was never my favorite, nothing really special about it

The Man Who Sold The World - David Bowie (The Man Who Sold The World) - 9.25/10 Completely unbelievable, every part of this song just has a tropical feel, and the ending is so beautiful

Scenes From An Italian Restaraunt - Billy Joel (The Stranger) - 8.5/10 Most progressive song from this album, the three parts of the song move together very well, and the song has great melodies in the last section

My Obsession - The Rolling Stones (Between the Buttons) - 7/10 Weird one, but I like the bass

Can't Afford No Shoes - Frank Zappa (One Size Fits All) - 7.25/10 Good song to get the audience into the album more after Inca Roads, really funny!

Mother's Daughter - Santana (6/10) - A solid, hard-rocking early Santana track with some awesome soloing and hard-hitting blues rock riffs.
Joe Satriani - The Crush of Love (4/10) - Not his best 80's material, but okay.
Asia - I Know How You Feel (1/10) - God this was a disappointing, sappy album.
Allman Brothers Band - One More Ride (3/10) - I'm glad that they didn't include this on Idlewild South, it's little more than a 12-bar backing track with a decent bridge in the middle.
Lynyrd Skynyrd - Tuesday's Gone (10/10) - One of the most emotional performances in southern rock. When the strings come in near the middle, I tear up.
Joe Satriani - Driving At Night (7/10) - The best song off of his first album; the dated 80's sound works surprisingly well to create atmosphere.
Uriah Heep - Blind Eye (6/10) - Not the best song that Uriah Heep ever did, but I really like the sea shanty feel.
Judas Priest - Rock Forever (8/10) - Judas Priest doing what Judas Priest does best. Not as raunchy as most of their quality stuff, but still does the job well.
Molly Hatchet - Good Rockin' (6/10) - You've gotta love Molly Hatchet. They're the archetypal hard rock band and have gone over the top more times than I can count. This song, cheesy as the lyrics are, has some great trade-off guitar soloing and top notch production.
Genesis - Harlequin (4/10) - The least remarkable song off of Nursery Cryme. Still kind of pretty, though.
Joe Satriani - Devil's Slide (10/10) - The best marriage of the rock and techno genres that I've ever heard.
George Harrison - Hear Me Lord (4/10) - Hear me play a chord progression that Pink Floyd would later use in "Time".
PFM - Generale (8/10) - A very creative RPI instrumental.
Allman Brothers Band - Les Brers In A Minor (7/10) - The intro takes a while, but once the rhythm section kicks in, the band just kills it for 5 solid minutes of quality jamming.
Gentle Giant - Edge of Twilight (4/10) - Lots of nocturnal atmosphere but doesn't resonate very strongly.
King Crimson - Exiles (10/10) - John Wetton's absolute masterpiece? Certainly one of King Crimson's many heart-wrenchingly melancholic ballads.
Led Zeppelin - Dancing Days (1/10) - Hate the guitar sound on this one.
Van Halen - Push Comes To Shove (5/10) - From the grittier side of Van Halen's repertoire. One of Michael Anthony's few times to truly shine as a bass player.
Genesis - White Mountain (8/10) - One of the most immersive fantasy prog songs I know of.

  1. Sad Professor - R.E.M (Up) - 7.5/10 Decent.
  2. (Do You Remember) The Saturday Gigs - Mott The Hoople (The Hoople) - 9/10 Great backing vocals.

  13. Bad Side Of The Moon - April Wine - 8/10 Probably my favorite version of this song.
  14. First In Line - Elvis Presley (Elvis) - 5/10 Boring.
  15. The Thrill Of It All - Roxy Music (Country Life) - 9/10 Really like the strange chorus on this one.
  16. Omar Diop Blondin - Heldon (Allez Teia) - 8.5/10 Relaxing with some nice sound alike frippotronics.
  17. Drivin Sister - Mott The Hoople (Mott) - 7.5/10 Not as good as it used to be.
  18. River Man - Nick Drake (Five Leaves Left) - 10/10 Amazing, complex string arrangements. Beautiful.
  19. Celeste - Donovan (Sunshine Superman) - 8/10 Used to love this album. Good song, dense production for back then.
  20. Nightclubbing - Iggy Pop (The Idiot) - 10/10 F**king love this song.

Optimistic - Radiohead (Kid A) - 8/10 Awesome song, after some really depressing moments in the album it's a good one to make you feel content again. Love the ending!

I'm Looking Through You - The Beatles (Rubber Soul) - 5.25/10 Hard to follow that Radiohead track

I'll be Your Mirror - The Velvet Underground (The VU and Nico) - 7/10 Lovely song sung by Nico

Lord is Mine - Supertramp (Breakfast in America) - 7.25/10 Everyone may overlook this album, but it's really good actually. This song has some really nice moments

Song For A Dreamer - Procol Harum (Broken Baricades) - 6.5/10 Great atmosphere, but there's just something about it that can bore me most of the time

In the Wake of Posiedon - King Crimson (In the Wake of Posiedon) - 9/10 Forgot this one, used to LOVE it! I especially admire the "On the scales" part-Greg Lake is the man!

Time is Money - Frank Zappa (Sleep Dirt) - 7.5/10 Weird song, but really progressive and jazzy

Motion Picture Soundtrack - Radiohead (Kid A) - 3.75/10 Weak ending that sort of ruins a great album. Also, what's with the 5 minutes of silence at the end of the song? Uses up space on my ipod!

Another Brick In The Wall Part 1 - Pink Floyd (The Wall) - 7/10 Really sets a good base for the second part soon to come, I actually may perfer this part over the famous part 2

Everything in it's Right Place - Radiohead (Kid A) - 7.5/10 Another one from Kid A? I swear I'm not planning this. Anyway, the vocals on this one are really creative and interesting to listen to

Break on Through (To the Other Side) - The Doors (The Doors) - 8/10 Classic!

Stagnation - Genesis (Trespass) - 7.25/10 Most of it is kind of boring, but I just love the ending

Fearless - Pink Floyd (Meddle) - 8.5/10 Who says Pink Floyd are depressing? A great track with positive lyrics and outstanding guitar work

How Many Friends - The Who (The Who By Numbers) - 7.75/10 This track is about Pete Townsend's life as a homosexual. It's really good, an underrated track by a great band

Magical Mystery Tour - The Beatles (Magical Mystery Tour) - 6/10 Great album intro, but doesn't stand out well as it's own song

Oh! You Pretty Things - David Bowie (Hunky Dory) - 7/10 I like singing this to my pet cat, who thinks she's so pretty

After All - David Bowie (The Man Who Sold The World) - 8/10 Such an ominous song, "Oh, by, Jingo..."

Once in a Lifetime - Talking Heads (Remain in Light) - 8.25/10 Always imagined looking into a Crystal Ball with it's spacious keyboards and humourous lyrics

Word on a Wing - David Bowie (Station to Station) - 6.75/10 Nice one, has a tropical atmosphere and sentimental lyrics

Indoor Games - King Crimson (Lizard) - 6.5/10 I really like this one, it's very goofy and kind of random. The saxophone is so weird

I think the site has grown significantly since then.  May post another one for next month.

OK, I'm quoting myself from a few days ago. Thought about starting a new thread for the "July Shuffle", but instead, lets just call this thread the SUMMER 2016 SHUFFLE & RATE, and maybe I or someone will make another similar thread for the Fall.

So here's my post-4th-of-July shuffle.  In addition to my main computer with thousands of tracks, I have about 400 tracks stored on a separate computer that I wanted to include. So I shuffled those 400, took the top-list track, and added it randomly to 19 shuffled from main computer, resulting In:

1. Sorceress, Return To Forever (Romantic Warrior) 8/10.  If you like Jazz-rock, prime example of some great stuff.

2. Benzai-Ten, Blackmore's Night (Fires At Midnight) 5.8/10. Wouldn't quite call this "filler", but a slower/weaker track.

3. The Incident, Porcupine Tree (The Incident Disk I) 5.3/10.  There's only one track on this album that I really like, and it ain't this one.

4. Nothing Ever Goes As Planned, Styx (Paradise Theater) 6.2/10. Hadn't heard this much and had to give it a couple listens; decent with a good guitar solo and horns.

5. O Grande Amor, Getz/Giberto (Jazzmasters Bossanova) 6.7/10. Yeah, I like Bossanova sometimes, though prefer the vocals of Giberto--this is only instrumental, pretty standard.

6. Thick As A Brick, Live at Madison Square Garden, 1978, Jethro Tull (Thick As A Brick) 8.5/10. "Yea! ...Well Good evening, Good Evening. Welcome to New York... That's a silly thing to say, I suppose you live here anyway. Never Mind. Gonna Start with one that you may well know. Cast your minds back to 1972 or thereabouts and, SPOT THE TUNE."   Jammin' bonus-track live version; crowd loves it!

7. Mile Marker Blues, Cannibals and Kings, (ÿþ3). 6.4/10. Sample track that came with Windows Media; had not really listened to it before.  Not too bad.

8. I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry, Cowboy Junkines, (Trinity Session) 7.3/10.  Kind of unique cool/low key country blues unlike any other band I've ever heard--especially works with this Hank Williams piece.

9. White Hammer, Van Der Graaf Generator (The Least We Can Do Is Wave to Each Other) 8.2/10. Grew on me a bit, esp. after discovering the subject matter (Maleus Malefaction) because I have an interest in religious/political history.  Glad someone is singing about this, and glad that someone is VDGG!

10. Urizel, David Axelrod (Song Of Innocence) 8.1/10 2nd listen to this. Sounds something like a Symphonic Prog jam with a more-than-usual lush and involved orchestra--something I haven't heard much elsewhere. Anyway, really like it.

11. Scherzo for Piano No. 4 in E major, Op 54, Evgeny Kissin, pianist (Chopin: The 4 Ballads...) 7.8/10 Kissin was a child prodigy pianist; he's in his teens or 20's here, but still brilliant.

12. Now I Must Hit You, Charts and Maps (Dead Horse) 8/10.  Man, whatever happened with this band?Great Stuff!

13. Lazing On A Sunday Afternoon, Queen (A Night At the Opera) 7.5/10. Queen-style retro; works well as the 1 minute piece that it is (any longer might get annoying).

14. Return of the Giant Hogweed, Steve Hackett (Genesis Revisited II) 8.4/10. Wow, nearly as good as the original. Hackett's extended guitar solo adds nicely!

15. It, Genesis (The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway) 7.6/10. Probably a little better in album context. Love the energy on this one.

16. Ripples, Steve Hackett (Genesis Revisited II) 7.8/10. So a bit of a Genesis block--this one's also nearly just as good as original. The female vocals work nicely.

17. Rock Me On The Water, Linda Ronstadt (The Best of Linda Ronstadt) 7.4/10. Quite like this (and I don't even really like country music). Linda has a great voice.

18. Up North, Bill Bruford (Stamping Ground: Bill Bruford's Earth Works) 6.3/10. Live performance, decent Metheny-like Jazz/rock, but not super Bruford drumming.

19. Losing It, Rush (Signals) 9.6/10. The most beautiful (yet rockin') subtly composed artistic piece Rush ever made IMHO, in spite of (or perhaps because of??) the negative subject matter.  One of two classic pieces on Signals (the other being Subdivisions). Ben Minke on the violin is downright amazin'!

20. Suzie Blue, Ben Harper & the Innocent Criminals (Burn To Shine) 6.8/10. Ragtimey blues/rock. Pretty good, but a bit anticlimactic after hearing Losing It again.

Haven't done this for a few weeks so time for another go.

1. Tearing At The Faerytale - Mostly Autumn (Glass Shadows) 9/10 This is one of the best songs on the album IMO
2. Round And Round - Odin Dragonfly (Offerings) 7/10 Heather Findlay and Angela Gordon from Mostly Autumn, in acoustic mood. Nice.
3. Look Into Me - Ted Turner (Eklectic Value) 6/10 Interesting New Age style song from former Wishbone Ash guitarist's solo album
4. Waterfall - Neal Morse Band (The Grand Experiment) 8/10 A lovely acoustic song, one of my favourites from this album.
5. Cellophane - Heather Findlay (The Phoenix Suite) 8/10 Third appearance in this list for the Mostly Autumn singer. I like this one, it reminds me a bit of Fleetwood Mac but with a harder edge to it.
6. Air Born - Camel (Echoes - The Retrospective) 8.5/10 A really nice bit of gentle prog
7. Further From Home - Mostly Autumn (Heart Full Of Sky) 7.5/10 Bryan Josh channels David Gilmour
8. Front Page News - Wishbone Ash (Front Page News) 7.5/10 Not one of my favourite WA albums, but the title track is pretty good.
9. The Spirit Flies Free - Wishbone Ash (Nouveau Calls) 7.5/10 Excellent instrumental track featuring the guitar of Andy Powell
10. Tales Of The Wise - Wishbone Ash (Illuminations) 8/10 Third WA track in a row. This is from the first album recorded after Andy Powell became the last remaining original member and is one of the best tracks on it. The song has a bit of a Pink Floyd feel to it.
11. Changing Tracks - Wishbone Ash (Bona Fide) 8/10 This rocks.
12. Evergreen - Mostly Autumn (Live 2009) 9/10 I love this song
13. Rock 'n' Roll Star - Barclay James Harvest (Best Of BJH) 6.5/10 OK
14. Renegade - Wishbone Ash (Strange Affair) 3/10 A poor track from a poor album
15. Forever In A Daze - Flying Colors (Flying Colors) 7.5/10 Great song
16. Ballroom Blitz - Sweet (Back To The 70s) 7/10 This takes me right back!
17. Metrognome - Camel (A Live Record) 6.5/10 OK
18. Pay The Price - Wishbone Ash (Just Testing) 7/10 Not the best track on the album, but it rocks.
19. Fly Fly Fly - Larry Norman (So Long Ago The Garden) 5.5/10 One of the more obscure songs from the father of Christina Rock
20. Winter Mountain - Mostly Autumn (Live 2009) 8/10 Another great live track

1 - Thank you for the music - Abba (Abba Mix) 7.5/10 At some point I decided I have to put together a collection of handpicked Abba songs, commercial pop or not, their melodies are genius.
2 - Abada - The Sea Nymphs (The Sea Nymphs) 8.5/10 Nice response to Abba (spot the title!), not as polished but the melody is every bit as addictive.
3 - Gone - The Comsat Angels (Sleep No More) 10/10 Dark and haunting post punk masterpiece, every single note of this is exactly where it should be.
4 - Sun in my mouth - Björk (Vespertine) 8/10 Not often heard and quite short, I forgot how good it is.
5 - Whatever would Robert have said - Van der Graaf Generator (The Least We Can do...) 9.5/10 Just the perfect song for Hammill's voice with a good climax.
6 - La Fiesta - Herbie Hancock & Chick Corea (Corea/Hancock) 7.5/10 Boy, can these guys play... complex and interesting, a bit pretentious perhaps.
7 - Oca de conter me/Sis - Maria Joao & Grupo Cal Viva (Sol) 9/10 Jazzy piano continued, minimalist but effectful. Then great development, great voice, great song.
8 - The Moving Force - Robert Fripp and the League of Crafty Guitarists (Show of Hands) 7/10 Nicely arranged lush and nevertheless Frippy guitar and violin piece, it may look weak in comparison on this list but is still quite good.
9 - Gone - Carla Kihlstedt (Some mix) 8/10 Has nothing to do with the earlier Comsat's "Gone"; fascinating leftfield melody by this collaborator of a number of RIO projects.
10 - Bobby Allen - Solarference (Lips of Clay) 9.5/10 One of the highlights by this experimental folk electronic duo that should be much better known.
11 - Quick Sign - Fred Frith & Keep the Dog (The House We Lived In) 8.5/10 Keep the Dog were a great live experience and this is the album that documents it. The track is well picked, more atmospheric and less atonal than some others.
12 - Vision on - The Planet Wilson (In the best of all possible worlds) 5.5/10 Undoubtedly original indie band; this song delights and annoys to equal amounts.
13 - Selbstportrait mit Kater - Einstürzende Neubauten (Perpetuum Mobile) 7.5/10 The Neubauten here quite civilized, cool and intellectual, still fascinating.
14 - Lost in Space - Short Snippet from 60s TV Show by unknown artist (Some mix) 6.5/10 Orchestra instrumental, not much to sink your teeth in but fun.
15 - Witold Lutoslawski/Günther Herbig und Berliner Symphonie-Orchester - Livre pour Orchestre 9.5/10 Good old Witold has thrown much at this and there's lots to discover. Plain sailing it is not.
16 - Aglow - Barbara Morgenstern with Coppe (Doppelstern) 7.5/10 Barbara Morgenstern goes Japanese girlie, very cute - not sure whether this is any proper language or just made up
17 - I have not been to Oxford - David Bowie (1. Outside) 7.5/10 I like the straight pulsating sound of this; a distant forerunner of the great Blackstar.
18 - Shadows of - Gong (Gazeuse!) 8/10 Gong at their most elaborate but still relaxed and swinging
19 - Pena - Captain Beefheart (Trout Mask Replica) 8/10 Fast & bulbous, a legendary bunch of nonsense. Love it.
20 - Pioneers over C - Van der Graaf Generator (H to He) 9/10 Finally a band appears for the second time, not totally unexpected because they have a strong presence in my collection, and they're great again, symphonic and adventurous.

That was a very strong random list; of course I like most music that I have but still this was better than expected.

1. Limelight - Rush (Moving Pictures) - 5.75/10 Was never a huge fan of this song...don't really know why

2. Pennyroyal Tea - Nirvana (Unplugged in New York) - 4/10 Stronger when electric, weaker when unplugged

3. How Many More Times - Led Zeppelin (Led Zeppelin) - 8/10 Amazing hard rock/early prog song! Gotta love the drumming at the "Steal Away" section

4. Just The Way You Are - Billy Joel (The Stranger) - 7/10 Probably one of the most mellow tracks on my ipod. I really love the saxophone in it and it's romantic atmosphere

5. Mother's Little Helper - The Rolling Stones (Flowers) - 7.5/10 A little psych rock the get you going!

6. With Our Love - Talking Heads (More Songs About Buildings and Food) - 7/10 A really well written Talking Heads track. The melletronish keyboard that comes in on the second verse is really cool

7. I'm Gonna Crawl - Led Zeppelin (In Through the Out Door) - 5.5/10 Meh...it's ok

8. China Girl - David Bowie (Best of) - 6.5/10 The bass patterns in this one are really cool, and no, I don't get tired of it when hearing it on the radio too much

9. Mean Mr. Mustard - The Beatles (Abby Road) - 6/10 You need to listen to the whole medley together

10. Electioneering - Radiohead (OK Computer) - 7/10 Cowbell is awesome, and it really stands out in the album. Makes me think of Donald Trump...

11. The Duke of Prunes - Frank Zappa (Absolutely Free) - 7/10 This version of the song includes all three sections. A fun one, and humourous in a dramatic way. Love the end when he goes "This is the exciting part. See the way it builds up?"

12. Sailor's Tale - King Crimson (Islands) - 9/10 One of my favorite instrumentals of all time. After Formentera Lady, it provides the true intensity of the album. The guitar solo is stupendous and so is the intro. Never fails to amaze!

13. Mrs. Robinson - Simon and Garfunkel (Best of) - 8/10 Makes me feel a little nostalgic

14. One Summer Dream - ELO (Face the Music) - 9/10 So sad. But not sad in a boring Peter Hammill like way. This one becomes hypnotic. This song has gotten me through many hard times in the past

15. Sympathy for the Devil - Rolling Stones (Beggeds Banquet) - 3/10 One of the most overplayed tracks of all time.

16. Mystic Rhythms - Rush (Power Windows) - 7.75/10 Pretty overlooked track. The guitar riff is really nice, and the backwards guitar solo adds a lot of creativity

17. The Long And Winding Road - The Beatles (Let it Be) - 8/10 Symphonic and beautiful. Actually, one that I have been listening to quite often these days. The harmonies are so pretty

18. Anne of Cleves - Rick Wakemen (Six Wives of Henry VIII) - 8/10 The crazy keyboard is so intense, and the suspicious meoldies. Why did Henry VIII execute her?

19. Po-Jamma People - Frank Zappa (One Size Fits All) - 8.25/10 Probably the most quintessential Zappa tracks because it has a lot of weird humour and a great guitar solo. "Hoy, Hoy, Hoy!"

20. The Great Deceiver - King Crimson (Starless and Bible Black) - 7.5/10 Great riff, but the best part about the song is how it's about cigarettes, ice cream, and figurines of the Virgin Mary

Fun way to pass some time at work Clap
might post some more later...

Pink Floyd - Waiting for the Worms: Not a big fan of The Wall in general. This is more of a theatrical track with not much going on musically, but I don’t hate it. 5/10

Satana - Eternal Caravan of Reincarnation: Great album opener/mood setter, but on its own it doesn’t really stand out. I mean half of the song is crickets chirping. Makes me want to listen to the rest of the album or at least Waves Within… 7/10

Steely Dan – Only a Fool Would Say That: I love me some Steely Dan. Actually went and saw them live last week and holy sh*t, they still got it. Not my favorite Steely Dan track, but it’s hard to hate this! 8/10

Mile Davis – If I Could Write a Book: Great little toe-tapper. Straight forward jazz tune, nothing groundbreaking. 7/10

Jethro Tull – Beltane: Not a track I’d ever go out of my way to listen to, but it’s a solid straightforward Tull tune from a solid album. 7/10

Paul Simon – American Tune (Unfinished Demo): Raw version, just Paul and an acoustic guitar. Makes me realize how much a little strings and drumming adds to the original. 6/10 for this version.

Leprous – Moon: Much like I think about the entire Congregation album, it’s a bit long and one note. Alright little jam at the end, but just contains one chorus too many for me. 6/10

Miles Davis – Ahu-Lue-Cha: See ‘If I Could Write a Book’ above. 7/10

Caravan – Winter Wine: Classic, love it. 10/10

Ayreon – Teachers of Discovery: Track literally starts off in the middle of a cut off scream. Why was this album cut up into such little pieces? Horrible album for shuffle… 3/10 in context.

4. “Super 61” LE BOX Le Horla - The quirky little pop song at the end of an amazing album. (8/10)

7. “The Longest Summer” PAT METHENY Secret Story - One of the great songs form an album masterpiece. (10/10)

16. “Silhouette, Parts i.-xii.” EDISON’S CHILDREN The Final Breath Before November - At a length of 67 minutes, this manages to be one of the greatest prog epics I’ve ever heard. Absolute ear candy and prog heaven. (10/10)

17.  “Library Song” THIEVES’ KITCHEN The Clockwork Universe - One of the two weak songs on an otherwise great album. (8/10)
