This month's podcast features artists from Germany, Italy, Norway, Sweden, Finland, France, Ireland, Canada, as well as New Jersey, US, and L.A., US. I don't specifically seek music from different countries, it just turns out that way. I seek good music, some variety as far as instrumentals, vocals, and aggressive/rockiness/mellowness. Get enough for about an hour and then go back and gather data. Viola! Here's what we've got! I am always amazed at how the music comes together. I've noticed some episodes seem to be more geared towards one country or other, I am awed at the diversity here, that just happened totally by chance. Even the US groups are on opposite coasts - 3000 miles apart.

Release date = 07/20 +-

New episode of Jul's Progkast is available.

This episode is being released early as I am working on making this podcast bi-monthly (twice a month). I may miss a week here or there, but there will always be at least one show a month. Release dates are set around the 5th of the month and the 20th - give or take a day or two.

Episode 14 features Atlas Cube, a new release from Meta from their album "Spatterlight", Hermelin, Disconnect, Jeremy Reiser, Aura Blaze, and an epic 20 minute piece from The J Conspiracy.

This month marks the one year anniversary of Jul's "Progkast". When I first started the podcast I was fulfilling a lifelong passion of wanting to turn people on to good music. I had this opportunity in the 80s when I was a DJ at a Freeform Radio Station for 4 years. I left the station due to a geographic move. Still, I wanted to do this. Around 2006 or so I thought of doing a podcast. It seemed like a lot of work just creating an RSS feed, lol. So I put it off. Then in 2016 I had the motivation to try again. This time my goal was to specifically promote Progressive Rock music. When I started the podcast, it was important to keep costs down as much as possible, thus I was searching through creative commons music for most of the content, with the intent of playing more popular "major" bands in the future. A few podcasts in, I was so impressed with the music and artists that I found that I decided to never go mainstream and to keep playing Independent, underground, and virtually unknown artists. I hope that at least some of these artists can find so called "mainstream" fame.... but I also hope that they maintain a "smallstream" attitude.... and one time in the future, perhaps, all artists will cut out the "middle man", keep most of their profits, and break the corporate machine. Prog is experiencing the end of the classic artists, with many passing away. We need NEW artists, and NEW music, something to keep the genre going. Artists like Meta, Frontecielo, Aria Bravata, Atlas Cube, Jason Rubenstein, Sumeritae, and others on Progkast, all deserve and ought to be on mainstream rock radio playlists. These bands are AMAZING! And innovators such as MOMA, Dosch, Lobate Scarp...I am just saying... endorse these bands... purchase their music... they ARE the NEW face of Prog! Some are young making their mark in the music...some are older, retired and have more time for music... some were playing music off and on and have aged like a fine wine... but ALL of them are worthy of more than just a glance! Listen... listen.... and then listen again....Become fans of these bands, follow them on facebook, purchase their music on Amazon, cd baby, bandcamp (many of them have "name your price" options), endorse them. There's some great stuff here... and I hope this genre does not fall to the wayside... it is time for Prog to come back - with a BANG!
