Something new and modern, but not necessarily hardcore metal. That's why I like Phideaux, and that's what I'm looking for

Tough question.   I went back and listened to my copy of Snowtorch.   Synthesizers galore, slightly acoustic, plus X has a great ear for melody.   So, eventhough they lack Phideaux's female vocals I'd check out Barock Project's 2015 album Skyline.  In the meantime, we wait for Infernal.

I'm interested to see what other people post here, I could really go for some new Phideaux. It's been a while. Is Infernal going to be his next album? If so any ETA?

Anyways, check out Toxic Smile's Farwell, might scratch the itch. It's on progstreaming...

I don't think I've come across anything like phideaux. I just bought skyline as it is excellent excellent album but I don't see much similarity. I've only bought phideauxs snow torch so far though and listened to chuc once.

So much to catch up on.

What about yak's quest for the stones?
Been a year since I checked it out though so may be way off..

Ok, I streamed a bit of all three of these. I could see that they would all be similar to Phideaux, but we should probably just keep waiting for Infernal, which I'm really hoping will come out this year

I haven't heard Paul Roland mentioned here before......I recall buying a few of his cd's in a cut out bin back in the day...always thought he sounded like a psych pop-rock singer songwriter similar to Robyn Hitchcock but with a Gothic edge. Never thought he was prog rock per se but those tracks posted above do have some similarity to some of Phideaux's work.
Listening to Snowtorch on the way to work today.........is that the last Phideaux album..?

The only band that springs to mind is Swedish Barrett Elmore. Try on their sole album 'Woodlands' for size: https://youtube.com/watch?v=AowMlifn2uo

It's great that none of these responses truly fit as bands that sound like Phideaux, it's a testament to their uniqueness.

Now if this was a "Prog similar to Haken" thread... it'd be a totally different story Wink

edit: besides that Paul Roland recommendation, that sure does have some uncanny similarities

I recommend T and Cosmograf, both are excellent multi instrumentalist musicians like Phideaux.

Very good artists !!! Clap

I've got Three albums of T and two of Cosmograf.

But, I don't think that their style is similar to Phideaux. Wink

Phideaux is so unique that it's hard to find anyone like them but here are some recent releases by other bands that have melodic, progressive styles you may like:

1. Drifting Sun - Safe Asylum
2. Airbag - Disconnected
3. Aperco - The Battle
4. Huis - Neither In Heaven
5. Mantra Vega - The Illusion's Reckoning
6. Amadeus Awad - Death Is Just A Feeling

Here are a couple others that are a bit different but might fit in:

1. Kompendium - Beneath The Waves
2. Dave Kerzner - New World
