`Stupid Dream' was a bit of a shock when it came out! (Mostly) Gone were the longer ambient stretches of `Signify' and much of anything from the the Delirium Records era, instead replaced by strong and intelligent song-writing grafted to the proggy elements. It's a bit of a classic of `crossover-prog', a perfect mix of experimental qualities worked around accessible songs. It gets an easy vote from me! `Scenes from a Memory' is definitely the defining Dream Theater album for me. Labrie was finally starting to calm down a bit as a singer (although his screeching version on the `Live Scenes from a Memory' DVD is borderline unlistenable), and the mastubatory instrumental stretches were very strongly written and arranged. I don't think they've come close to matching it before or since, but I'm sure some die-hard DT fans will happily tell me otherwise!

This is probably the poll that will be the closest.
I could actually vote for DT here...but I wont. :p

This was perhaps the closest vote for me so far, as Stupid Dream is one of the weakest PT albums and Scenes From a Memory is one of DT's strongest. I still voted for Porcupine Tree, though, so I don't envisage Dream Theater getting any of my votes in the forthcoming matchups.

I'm just doing one more as this fight is too one sided, I thought maybe DT would pull this one out even though PT is my pick here.

Alright I'm calling it. Batman demolishes Superman by a TKO. In the words of that great Canadian Band Our Lady Peace "...Supermans dead!"

Porcupine Tree..........Even Less is on that one and it's a favorite of mine...not to mention several other excellent tracks. I have tried liking DT over the years but always found them tedious...but then I'm not a fan of prog metal.
