I like Camel.

I love Kansas at their best.

Which Argent album should I start with?

I tried a greatest hits album once and was not impressed.

voted Kansas

Kansas, Camel, Argent in that order.

110% agree. Camel is, for me, the best band ever. But Argent are excellent and this is the first time i've ever seen them mentioned on here. Kansas? Well they're not bad.

Camel gets my vote, their first four albums can compete with the big wigs of progressive rock. However, I will admit I haven't listened to any Argent, so I'll try and check them out this weekend.

I can't vote in the poll, but easily Kansas for me. Especially 70s Kansas is easily upper-tier in my opinion.

Re Argent, I like what I've heard fairly well, though I've not heard at least half of their output. I need to explore them more.

Re Camel, I've heard even less of their work, but in their case, that's because what I've heard hasn't clicked very well with me.

I gotta believe most Americans including the U.S. and a lot of Latin and South America would prefer Kansas. The older and more familiar I get with Prog music around the world the more I understand why Europeans and others don't take Kansas all that seriously, but there is a quality to their music and lyrics that speaks to the wide open expanse that is the Western Hemisphere, and the history that brought us to where we are today. While I can appreciate stuff like early Genesis and Camel and VdGG and the like, that music doesn't capture the western spirit anywhere close to what Kansas does so it will never rate as soulful and dear, at least for me.

And IMHO Argent was a good band but doesn't belong in the same conversation as Kansas or Camel.
