'And Their Refinement of the Decline' by Stars of the Lid was playing on repeat when I woke up this morning. That's it so far, but it's only lunchtime.

Great, mate. I'll still likely grab that Quaeschning/Schnauss album before too long. I kind of feel it probably deserves a spot on the TD shelf. Last two days for me: Tangerine Dream – Pergamon/Quichotte Tangerine Dream – Thief If – 2 Birth Control – Live ‘79 Perigeo – Abbiamo Tutti un Blues da Piangere Cybotron – Implosion Jean-Michel Jarre - Oxygene Chase – Ennua Hot Tuna – First Pull Up, Then Pull Down - cracking jammy bluesy acid psych from the Jefferson Airplane spin-off. |

Pretty damn good, mate. Had it for quite a while but only just got around to spinning it lately. It's interesting, the deep-spacey keyboards sound more like the instrumental passages of Eloy than Tangerine Dream, and they use a live drummer which gives it a very `rock' sound. How did you like that Fruup album? First time hearing it/them? I think all of their four albums are great! |

^ Oh, that seems quite different from the ones I heard. I'll look into it.
That was the first time I heard them and I really liked it, it's very dynamic. I'd have to return to it to have a clearer opinion. By the way, do you have Carol of Harvest's debut? I had forgotten about this lovely and trippy album.

Sam, I don't have that Carol of Harvest album, but I know of its reputation, and I've certain years ago I used to spin it on Youtube and was plenty impressed. I'll have to give it a fresh spin and look at getting it in the future.
Last night's choices: Boffalongo – s/t (mix of acid/blues/jazz/psych/pop from late ’68) I.Q – Are you Sitting Comfortably? Marillion – Holidays in Eden (OK, so the title track is a bit crappy, and not every track is a gem, but I’ve realised I’d take this more commercial album over most of their more recent ones that came after `Marbles’. At least this one has punchy tightly written tunes and avoids the mumbly rambling vocals and vagueness of the modern discs that can wear a little thin). Steve Roach – Alive in the Vortex Steve Roach – Soul Tones Steve Roach – Monuments of Ecstasy Stephen Halpern and Georgia Kelly – Ancient Echoes – sublime new age/ambient LP Tangerine Dream – Alpha Centauri Oresund Space Collective – Hallucinations Inside the Oracle (another killer of an album from them!) |

Last night:
Arena – Songs from the Lions Cage P.F.M – Emotional Tattoos (sigh...mostly pretty unengaging AOR with top-notch playing. The great instrumental on it is the shortest piece! ) P.F.M – Live Collection: November 1980 – Sam, this is that one you know too from the video, what a great performance (and not a William Tell Overture in sight! ) Michael Hoenig – Departure from the Northern Wastelands |

^ Sam I'm currently waiting for my Vespero copy, I'm hoping it will turn out as good as their latest Lique Mekwas album.
BTW Shum Shir in hebrew means "no song"...that's weird.

How are these two? I haven't ventured outside of O'Rourke's more experimental material yet, and while I like the first two Gastr Del Sol albums, neither blew me away. Nonetheless, I've got both of those on my wishlist at the moment. Good to see you got around to .O.Rang too. The Books - Thought For Food (you might find this one intriguing, Larks) Spontaneous Music Ensemble - Bare Essentials (anyone up to 2 and a 1/2 hours of duo improvisations for sax and percussion?) Disco Infero - D.I. Go Pop Oxbow - Serenade in Red

That's right, mate. I'll post a detailed review of it over the next few hours, but it's definitely not a very essential work. Which is a shame, because some of their last few like `AD 2010: La Buona Novella' and `Stati di Immaginzione' were generally excellent. It's even less interesting when you realise plenty of other vintage prog acts, be they Cherry Five, Maxophone, Metamorfosi, etc and many others have all delivered fairly recent works that are still very ambitious and lavish with plenty of `prog' elements to them. |
