Faust | The Faust Tapes (aka A Turning Point in my life) The Dead C | Trouble (their 2016 album. new one in 10 days, yay!) Diratz | Diratz (she’s really a strange but addictive singer. And Dave Newhouse provides much of the music) Datsustora | Of Final (a brief industrial/noise EP i think i got off a blg somewhere) Hall & Oates | Voices (probably their ultimate sweet spot between mastering their craft and making it huge) Sugarcubes | Here Today, Tomorrow Next Week! (Bizarre pop) Bjork | Post (my first real “A-HA!” moment With Bjork’s music happened today. I really get it now) David Bowie | Low (an old favorite) Don Bradshaw Leather - Distance Between Us (Now playing) |

Nice...never thought of that! Lucy Dacus - Historian: Not as bleak as her bud Julien Baker, this indie girl has more variety to her sound, and despite the typical inflections, her tone is a bit more mezzo so it stands out. Not bad. Sharon Van Etten - Are We There: This is even better, with "Your Love is Killing Me" being tremendous, but I'm hitting burnout stage with the femme indie stuff, so I gotta take a break. The Velvet Underground - s/t: That album of there's you can actually chill to, and it's damn good. I've heard "The Murder Mystery" being considered "out of place" by some, but that's crazy. It fits in fine, and besides, this is The Velvet Underground we're talkin' about here! All Traps on Earth - A Drop of Light: This would be perfect for me, and the operatic vocals are a nice touch, but the total old-school mellotron overkill gets on my nerves. Yes, I get it, it's PROG, but sheesh man... Edited by Prog Sothoth - January 09 2019 at 16:57 |

Hall & Oates plus The Don in one day is highly commendable for any playlist I have their debut lying around somewhere but it’s been ages. Then again I actually like Man-eater and the likes (in small dosages). Björk has never really hit the spot for me. Maybe I should try the post. Let her be my mailman for an hour or so. I woke up at 5 thos morning so had chance to spin 2 albums on my way to work: Perry Leopold - Christian Lucifer Emtidi - Saat (‘Don’t sit on the grass, it’s too cold for yer ass’) |

Astrodome? I’m fairly certain I remember the name but haven’t checked them out. On the lost it goes!
I am looking forward to a weekend of streaming whatever prague releases from 18 that I missed over the year |

Yeah I don't know what's up with me, but the 'trons were just so constant, busy and "retro" sounding in a silly sort of way...which shouldn't really bother me but everything else sounded so cool and even forward-thinking. It's just me I guess...to much Snail Mail or something.
Only two for today: Tiffany - s/t: The 1987 opus. I was expecting an overall dance-pop sound, but much of this is more like AOR sweatband pop. I remember hearing 3 of these songs A LOT back then, but man, I don't think the producers expected much from her since the music sounds so cheap. Not as in 80's sounding, but just plain cheap and demo-ish sounding even, certainly compared to her rivals at the time. Her voice has a bit of Bonnie Tyler to it, which gives her more character...so there's that. Hilariously bad, but stupidly entertaining in a way. The Tangent - Proxy: As far as retro symph-prog is concerned, this is top-shelf stuff. What I dig is that the songs each have their own sound to them, which is something a fair amount of these groups don't think about in the studio. The grey-haired man vocals are par-for-the-course I guess, but they actually work with the cynical grumpy lyrics. Get outta my lawn!! Maybe for their next album they can switch things up...recruit Tiffany as their singer.

Yes - Relayer A new-found favourite of mine, and probably my second-favourite Yes album. "Gates of Delirium" is just too good. As expected, an excellent album, filled with quality musicianship. Although their newest album, Civilisation, is somewhat better imo.

Exposé - Exposure: "Point of no Return", not to be confused with "Point of Know Return", was a song I secretly enjoyed (lest my "cool" friends call me a "false"), so decades later I'm checking out the album. Freestyle dance pop, perfectly conjuring the image of smoky pink and blue neon-lit nightclubs. A couple of ballads capture that 80's porn on VHS vibe as well. Cheesy junk, but fun.
Piniol - Bran Coucou: After challenging myself with Exposé, it's always good to clear up the mind with some Piniol. The bass on this album is sick in a good way. Kind of avant garde and freaky, with some bits that are explosive. I'm digging this a lot.

I got inspired by the Relayer love in here...and put on The Yes Album yesterday. I must be in the mood for the Yes “sound” because I span Wobbler’s latest afterwards and later on Perfect Beings’ Vier.
Yesterday: Invisible - Durazno Sangrando Yes - The Yes Album Wobbler - From Silence To Somewhere Ennio Morricone - Crescete e Moltiplicatevi Eloy - Colours (That bass! Mmmm) King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard - Polygondwanaland Perfect Beings - Vier Camel - Rain Dances (hello! why haven’t I paid attention to you?) ZU - Jhator Il Paradiso degli Orchi - Il Corponauta (something about this release that I really dig - it is something that crystalises on the two ending tracks but rather omnipresent throughout...although the vocals can take a little getting used to...for me) Richard Pinhas/Merzbow - Rhizome (beautiful uptrickling music that clears out the sinuses in a jiffy) Edited by Guldbamsen - January 12 2019 at 03:07 |

For today:
Mystery - *Lies and Butterflies* A pretty good album, but I think they could have gone and experimented with more genres along the way. Though perhaps it's the Yes, Wobbler and Southern Empire fan in me.
