Man I love The Fall. So many good albums but those are 2 of the best.

Add "Perverted by Language" and you get my top 3. Great band that maintained their greatness until the end. Always glad to see another fan!
Those 3 would likely be in my top 5, or close to it. “Bend Sinister” would be somewhere in there too.

Last coupla days:

Quicksilver Messenger Service | Just for Love
The Fall | Code: Selfish
The Fall | Fall Heads Roll
The Beta Band | The Three EPs
Vangelis | Heaven & Hell
Gabor Szabo | Rambler
Mr. Hageman | Twin Smooth Snouts
George Benson | Good King Bad
Graham Parker | Heat Treatment
Boz Scaggs | My Time: A Boz Scaggs Anthology (1969-1997) (disc 1)
The Wilde Flowers | s/t
The O’Jays | Ship Ahoy
Flaming Tunes | s/t
The Doors | Other Voices

I was working all day yesterday...on a saturday
...but managed to get some albums in when I got home..straight on into the night actually:

Beck - Mellow Gold
Beck - Sea Change
Soft Machine - Seven
Soft Machine - Three
Amon Düül - Meetings With Menmachines (The UK based variant with Dave Anderson and John Weinzierl)
Miles Davis - Sketches Of Spain
Tower Of Power - s/t
The Flaming Lips - Embryonic
Colosseum - Valentyne Suite (The title track is one of the rare occasions where a word like ‘orgasmic’ really fits for some reason. The drums alone justify this)

I love a good hot competition. Lol.

Opinions are like a****les cause everyone’s got one. ;)
I think TFF just never retained that massive, hooky magic they had in the 80’s .
I honestly think they were the Beatles in 1985. They really did rule the music world.

Today was awesome. Got some new releases.

Fear Factory— Aggression Continuum ( well this is my new favorite album of 2021. I mean it is nothing different coming outside the FF camp, however it is still quality music. Sounds great as well. Incredible and slick production.

Queensrÿche— Operation Mindcrime 35th Ann Remaster. ( so is it worth buying this boxset even though one may have bought the 3CD 2006 deluxe edition? You bet. I can’t believe how much of an improvement sound-wise this remaster has. It is so fantastic I’m shocked. Ed Courage at Abbey Road studios gave this album a beautiful facelift it massively deserved cause the 2006 version is absolutely garbage. If one loves this album you’ve got to buy it. :)

Black Sabbath— Sabotage (2021 remaster ). Again. Another massively successful remaster. Jesus I think we’re finally getting way better at reissuing classic albums. :)

^^ Boredoms! Need to play that one again. I did spin Seadrum/House of Sun a month or so ago, and that really sounded great after all this time.

I’ve listened to this:

Don “Sugarcane” Harris | I’m on Your Case — R&B/blues from a guy you’ll recognize from Hot Rats, Weasels, & Burnt Weeny

Steve Hillage | Rainbow Dome Musick — newly acquired vinyl copy

Henry Kaiser | Hope You Like our New Direction — hilarious cheesy album cover, but the music inside samples nearly all of the strange directions his career has taken: live jammy covers of popular songs with his touring band, acoustic Americana, Synclavier pieces, avant guitar solos, complex jazzy instrumentals, songs from the Far East with Richard Thompson singing, etc.

The Lodge | Smell of a Friend — should be better known in prog circles. J Greaves & P Blegvad, with Jakko Jakczyk, Kristofer Blegvad (on most of the vox) & Anton Fier, late 80s. Writing and playing sophisticated thinking-man’s pop/rock.

Sonic Youth | SYR 6: Koncertas Stan Brackhage — one of the best of the SYR series, a live improvised performance of swelling and receding avant drones & feedback manipulation.

Roxy Music | Avalon — when my dad got his first CD player in ‘85, this was the first CD he bought. It’s long been a constant in my life, like all those Steely Dan albums. Feels good to listen to it every now and then.

Pink Floyd | Meddle — because why not

Genesis | Wind and Wuthering - speaking of my dad, I was at his house last night and he asked me to bring my CD of this. He wanted to compare it to the issue he has, and also compare to a vinyl copy (which we both also have). So we did a comparison of all three: vinyl, 90s CD (mine), and more recent CD (his). We agreed the new remaster was superior to the 90s CD. The vinyl was better than the 90s CD too.

Hey!!! Love the Genesis and Flying Lotus pick. Nice man.

Take your time. TFF sowed their true last seed of lovely awesomeness in 1989. Enjoy your vacation. Next week I will have 4 days off for the Canada 🇨🇦 Day long weekend. Looking forward to that. Gonna dive into some great albums.

^Heh…I’ve got 3 weeks off with pay..though granted this has been a looong time since I last had any significant time off work. Some times it’s a pain in the derriere being great at something. Often means being the only one who can handle X kid that everyone else is scared off.
Been spinning a few old Genesis albums here and there, and it’s nice to shake hands with a young Gabriel as well as Collins in full force. That guy could play!
Nice pick btw Steve. Wind & Wuthering seems like a soundtrack to so many family ties. I remember Jim from the Italian villa drawing parallels with this very album and his dad. Regarding sound quality, I’m not exactly sure what cd version I have..but will check when I get home. At the moment I’m chilling in my folks’ garden. As mentioned they’re visiting Rhodes so I’m watching the grass and the kitty for the next fortnight. Also making nice with the many bumblebees and blackbirds. This is living. I almost fear having to go back to my apartment at some point. Only good thing about getting back? All my cds and headphones
I really enjoyed the Boredoms spin. It’s like a Japanese amphetamine fuelled punk-rock take on Can. Over stock and stone! I listened to it rather loudly as I was rekindling a loveaffair with a headphone I hadn’t used for a month or so..and damn man..afterwards I felt as if someone turned off this strange and psychedelic cement-mixing trance-party in my brain.

re: Boredoms

Vision Creation Newsun and Seadrum/House Of Sun are great! I much prefer them to their hyperactive early stuff (which may have its moments, but not very often nowadays).

A few years ago I saw a Boredoms live video where they had literally dozens of drummers.

Agree with you there! Have to be in the right mood for that crazy early stuff.
