Major Edenbridge binge thanks to getting their most recent vinyl. Symph metal that's melodic, epic and with silky gorgeous female vocals.
The Great Momentum - I really like this one, especially the first two tracks ("Shiantara" is righteous and "The Die is not Cast" has a killer instrumental section). Even the cheesy ballad with the Eclipse singer is okay. Shine - A few songs I don't care for, but the highs are super high. "The Canterville Ghost" and "And The Road Goes On" are epic and creative as hell. "Elsewhere" is a beautiful little number. The Bonding - I lose interest after the first couple of songs except for the 6/8 tempo "Far Out of Reach" which is quite cool and majestic. The epic length final track is kind of a letdown. Arcana - A lot of power metal influence with a few speedy numbers. "Startlight Reverie" is an awesome fast track, and the two bonus tracks are amazing. One of their best. Aphelion - Probably their heaviest with lots of power metal, but the songs lack memorability compared to Arcana, which has a better mix of styles and more catchiness. The Grand Design - A few real good songs like the punchy "Evermore", but some skippable numbers too. A pretty mixed bag. Love the Latin music moment during the title track. MyEarthDream - One of their best. Real catchy and downright beautiful at times with songs like "Undying Devotion" and "Paramount" ringing like some kind of "ethereal metal". Sunrise in Eden - Their debut is surprisingly one of their most adventurous albums with some prog thrown in at times. Sabine sounds really young here too. A bit raw but good. Solitaire - I honestly have a hard time getting though this one. Songs like "Higher" sound too mainstream for my taste and there's less of a sense of adventure overall.

Some really good albums today.
Stomu Yamash'ta with Come to the Edge - Floating Music Soft Machine - Spaced (So untypical of Soft Machine, but I love it. The atmosphere of this one is really deep.) Popol Vuh - In Den Gärten Pharaos (Been a while since I last listened to it. Really hit the spot - this took me to another realm) Wendy Carlos - A Clockwork Orange Cluster - Sowiesoso (3.13 rating? Really? For me, this is far better than Zuckerzeit. I think it may even rival Cluster II as my favorite Cluster album.) |

Aurora - All My Demons Greeting Me as a Friend (2016)
I'm in love with this album (you may notice that the album cover is my current profile pic). Yes, there's a very noticeable pop influence to it, but these songs are honest, heartfelt, and tragically beautiful, unlike so much of the garbage in the pop industry nowadays. It's definitely not for everyone, especially progheads who're set in their ways, but I recommend it if you wanna try something a little different and more stripped down. As far as prog goes, I decided to give Marillion's 1989 album 'Seasons End' a spin for old time's sake. A very enjoyable listen, and proof that they could still write great songs without the genius of Fish. Oh, I also heard four Beethoven symphonies today (the 3rd, the 5th, the 6th, and the 9th). Good stuff that all self-respecting music fans should know of!
