How is that one? I've been formulating a Christmas list in between study breaks, and my last choice is narrowed down between Bowery Electric and the second Death Ambient album.
6,5/10 for me. Kind of dry in places, but pretty pleasant anyway. Kind of like Boards of Canada gone post-rock/shoegaze, losing the intricacy in favor of lushness along the line.
Categories strain, crack and sometimes break, under their burden - step out of the space provided.

Using my Amazon Unlimited subscription, there is a surprising amount of prog available. So spent yesterday going through some 2017 releases (using the PA database to select albums).

Only 5 releases came up as heavy prog, with 4 of the 5 on Amazon. All really good.

Kettlespider - Kettlespider
Arabs in Aspic - Arabs in Aspic
Elder - Reflections of a Floating World
Sky Architect - Nomad

And working my way through eclectic prog. 8 on the database, with 6 of 8 on Amazon.

Major Parkinson - Blackbox

Skynyrd´s great, so Birds of Fire! My favourites in Skynyrd are pronounced, Nuthin Fancy and street.

Nice choices, those are also my top 3 Skynyrd studio albums. I'd probably rank them in the following order:

1. Pronounced
2. Street Survivors
3. Nuthin' Fancy
4. Second Helping
5. Gimme Back My Bullets

The first two in the list I'd easily give 5 stars, then 4 stars for the next two (these two are pretty close in quality, I only give Nuthin' Fancy the edge because it has Am I Losin'). I'd probably give 3 stars for Gimme Back My Bullets (though it has some 5 star moments, like All I Can Do Is Write About It). Then I don't care for any of the stuff they put out after the plane crash. If you're an old school Skynyrd fan and haven't heard it already, I highly recommend getting the Skynyrd's First: The Complete Muscle Shoals Album compilation. It's all demos that they recorded before the debut album (back when Rickey Medlocke was in the band - for the first time!) and includes some great versions of later material as well as plenty of unreleased material that's up to the same standard as any of their big hits. Preacher's Daughter, You Run Around, and Comin' Home are some of my favourite tracks the band ever put out.

Anyway, that's probably enough Southern Rock talk for now...

Today's albums:

Yes - Progeny: Highlights From Seventy-Two
Solar Wind - Mind Glow
Tenderton - Tenderton
On The Raw - Big City Awakes
Herbie Hancock - Head Hunters

Ah, well I'm seeing similarly positive but lukewarm receptions elsewhere too, so I'll abstain for now, put John Zorn's Kristallnacht on the list instead (until I change my mind again).

Cul De Sac - China Gate
The Taj Mahal Travellers - August 1974
Julia Holter - Tragedy
Wolf Eyes - Burned Mind

I agree about your ranking order! To me it´s little bit hard to say which is better, street survivors or nuthin. I love Nuthin much more than second helpin, there are such a great songs like saturday night special, Cheatin Woman, Am I losin, Whiskey R´Rer. No, I haven´t got the compilation, but I have Skynyrd´s First...and last. I think it has at least some same songs as that, it´s really great (Preacher´s Daughter and comin Home are in it)! I haven´t ever been into those many cd:s boxes where are every versions of some songs. Also, I think their seventies live One more from the road is really great! Haven´t ever listened their later outputs much although they´re not totally bad. About southern music I quess you like Allman Brothers too? To me their first five albums have been in lot listening and they´re just great!

My yesterdays albums:
Supertramp: Crime of the Century
the Heartbreakers: L.A.M.F
Sun Ra: Singles volume 1: Definitive 45s Collection 1952-1961
the Mothers of Invention: We´re Only In It For the money
