Lenny White, but sot so much for his drumming skills itself which haven't struck me as that great, but for albums of his and ones he's been involved with. "Venusian Summer" has great music on it, if rather inconsistent for my tastes, particularly the "Venusian Summer Suite" which has been a particular favourite track of mine in Fusion. I particularly like the electronic, cosmic Dr. Patrick Gleeson's contribution to it with the more classical sounding opening (reminiscent of Holst or Debussy), but then we get this fantastic jazz funk. I also like his album, "The Adventures of the Astral Pirates".
Additionally, quoting some of my review sans quotation marks, Lenny White is the drummer who played on the seminal album by Miles Davis, "Bitches Brew", and also played on the most excellent "Red Clay" by Freddie Hubbard. He also performed on Eddie Henderson's masterpiece, and I believe one of the greatest albums in JRF, "Realization" (which is what initially drew me to explore Lenny White albums). In fact, Lenny White has played with a great many of the jazz, and jazz fusion greats such as Freddie Hubbard, Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, Buster Williams, Eddie Henderson, Billy Hart, Benny Maupin, Ron Carter, Joe Henderson, various Return to Forever guys obviously, and Larry Coryell.
I'm not so familiar with Dennis Chambers.

Don't forget Lenny on Return to Forever's Romantic Warrior, one of my all-tima favorites.

Not forgotten, but I just didn't get much out of that album -- has been quite a few years since I last listened to it, though, and my tastes have rather changed in that time. I did like Return to Forever's Hymn of the Seventh Galaxy considerably though (which also has White).

Lenny White by 1/2 and inch over Billy Cobham, and 1 inch over Dennis Chamber. Three quite excellent drummers. Very hard choice.

Cobham.....for me mostly due to his work with Mahavishnu....but all 3 are great drummers and have huge discographies.

All great, very close in stature. But Cobham does it for me.

I've always been surprised at how under-appreciated Lenny White is. I think his drumming is amazing!

Over all for me would be Billy Cobham but in his prime Lenny White was his equal. I think Dennis Chambers suffers here because his lack of identification with a dominant fusion group like Cobham and White have. Sad because Chambers is damn good.

Dennis Chambers in a New York minute. Maybe the best jazz/rock drummer the world has ever seen.

Here's one of Cobham. Listen to the whole first song but if you're in a hurry start listening at around 4:48 and let me know if you still think it's Chambers.

I enjoy Lenny White's drumming the most out of the the three but to me Cobham is better than any other drummer I've ever heard with the only possible exception of Bill Bruford. Such power and precision.

One of my favorite fusion albums!

I admit that one disappointed me. It's not bad, though. Just not as good as Ve nusian Summer or Big City.
