You mean the mexican Cafe Tacuba? I never thought of them as remotely proggy... though to be perfectly fair, I never liked what I heard from them very much, so I didnt' dig any deeper. However, they were indeed very popular and I guess quirky or whatever... unconventional... in a way I was never able to get into them. |

ELP - Lucky Man
A lot of songs from Voivod's The Outer Limits and Angel Rat. They have the full version of Friends of Mr Cairo by Jon and Vangelis on the 80s playlist on satellite radio that my work played. FM - Phasors on Stun Prism - Armageddon (for quirkiness) Five Man Electrical Band - I'm a Stranger Here (for quirkiness) Bunch of I Mother Earth and Big Wreck are quirky. Sweet - Love is Like Oxygen (full, album version) |

Yeah, in general Devin Townsend has a very heavy, noisy and weird sound, with his wall of sound and grunting and all, but somehow his hooks seem to be rather catchy and enjoyable even for non-proggers. |

Yeah, probably a bad example, haha. It seems like most of the community on this site don't like Cafe that much, which really shocked me. I loved them from first listening to Yosoy, and sharing the album with my close friend, he looked at me and genuinely THANKED me for showing him the band. They can get as prog as you want, Reves is a full-instrumental (not accessible at all, even for fans of the band.. a masterpiece), but the companion-piece Yosoy is odd, sometimes very loud, sometimes INSANELY quiet (a simple harp and man humming, with water running and a quiet dog barking in the background..)
Even though this band will never be on this site, it's worthy of a recommendation anywhere. |

A trilogy of albums by Gentle Giant come to mind immediately, Freehand, Interview, and The Missing Piece.

I think Cardiacs is one of the best groups EVER, but I have many close friends that would disagree.. I don't think they're completely accessible Just about as accessible as The Residents, probably a little more |

Good ones! "Elephant Talk" came to mind immediately. "Heroes" by David Bowie and "Once in a Lifetime" by Talking Heads might fit this bill.

Hmmm. I'm just going off my experiences with non-musican friends who are somewhat prog fans but not into the most crazy stuff. They all seem to love the Cardiacs. For someone frequenting PA, i'd say this fits though
