I've spent the whole weekend with this album, having approached it with mixed feelings due to previous albums being hit and miss affairs for me.

And the result? To my surprise I think they've come up with a real winner this time. Here's my review:

Great album. I love politics in music (as well as circles and kings, dragons and rings) and this is no exemption to that idea.

A solid piece of work. My only real criticisms are H's fondness for soft falsetto moments - these are fine, but I feel they rely on this a bit too much.

The drums - Mosley is a great understated drummer but they feel a bit flat here. I think it's the production.

But on the whole, their best work in two decades.

I love the album.  And I'm actually quite surprised that so many others don't.  Here on PA, it started with a rating over 4.00, and it is now down to 3.69 (as of 4 am NY time on 9/30).  My review was the first, and (again, as of right now) is still the only one on the album page (not sure why...).
Valen: Read your review.  Well done.  We disagree on a couple of points.  (I DO hear "anger," and feel that the album IS a "political statement" of sorts.  But otherwise we agree on the strength of the album, and its good points.)

Ghost Whistler: I agree with virtually everything you said.

Musically I love this album.  The bass and keyboards are just brilliant.  "H" voice can be a little strained sometimes, I feel he keeps the same tempo throughout the album, but can lead to some what boredom.  This is just a typical Marillion cd.  My verdict is just slightly above average, but as I've only heard this for a few days, I might change my mind.  It all depends on how I can except "H" singing on this album!....

Good album for me (as a Marillion huge fan) but Its not a 5 star album. They used many of their previous successful (!) elements and mix them to make a new album. For me , this album like variety of Marillion's (H era) great parts and it is very enjoyable experience!
Its like a Boxset or Selection for me. If you play each song of this album from middle of song , you may mistake about which song you played! and you may face to these questions : Is it King?! Am I play FEAR?! Perhaps I played "Brave" Album?! or Afraid of Sunlight ?!
Totally I love FEAR. I had (have) many "Nostalgic" moments with it !

I thought my CD order coming from New South Wales to me in Victoria two days ago might have arrived today...

It did not.

Nothing worse than a prog junky expecting a big fix and having to go cold turkey instead!

As the Sergeant said to the raw recruit on the parade ground, wait for it, wait for it

Couple more listens required, I think. I have to travel to Manchester on Sunday for work, so it is likely to be done then.

Hope you enjoy your trip to our fair city . After finally getting to hear the album (twice) I'm really enjoying it, particularly El Dorado, which is superlative.

I am seriously considering make a trip to Cleveland Ohio October 29th to see them play.  Problem is that I am going to Cleveland tomorrow to see a friend play in a local symphony orchestra and also considering making a three hour trip to see Anderson Rabin and Wakeman play on November 5th.  Ironically, ARW are playing in Akron Ohio the same night as Marillion, if they had played the night before it would have made for an awesome road trip.
