Topic: VH1 vs AfD? Posted: September 26 2016 at 12:07 |
Which hard rock debut album you consider better and why: self-titled by Van Halen(1978) or Appetite for Destruction by Guns N'Roses(1987)?

Van Halen is more important album for the hard rock history, but I prefer Appetite by a tad.

I love Van Halen and Van Halen I is a classic, and as you say the more important album in hard rock history.
I "discovered" G 'N R amongst my group of friends when I saw the video for Welcome to the Jungle on Headbangers Ball on MTV. I ordered the record and was playing it for my friends shortly thereafter. If I remember correctly it took a few months before the song broke out and made mainstream radio and became a hit. We definitely had a lot of fun playing that album. I think that I am going to surprise myself and say that AFD is the better album. I think maybe because as great as the great moments are on VHI, the low moments are even lower.

Guns'n'Roses was THE hard-rock band for my generation, but it had never been my favourite band. And, frankly, while AFD has some great songs ("Welcome to the Jungle", "Paradise City", "It's So Easy"), VH1 had more great songs.

I really like both, and neither are my favorites from each band, but I choose Van Halen I for not only being great but historical importance.

I haven't been able to listen to Axl Rose ever since a friend suggested he sounded just like Edith Bunker.
