You read that right - Dylan is set to release a 36 disc set covering soundboard and audience recordings of 23 shows from the most pivotal year of his long, fruitful career. These shows opened with a solo acoustic set by Dylan, leading into a loud, brash electric full band set. It even includes the 17th May show in Manchester where one audience member christened him "Judas". Tongue

It will be released on the 11th of November, and the 26th May Royal Albert Hall show will also have its own separate release alongside its showing in this boxset.

I already own and love the live album from the Royal Albert Hall recorded in the same year. Not sure I need 23 versions of it though

Yeah, a bit excessive.

How much will they ask for this one, $900?

I suspect this may be more 1966 live Bob Dylan than anyone needs.

To me all the studio recordings of Dylan in the '60s are essential. It would be good (better... appropriate) were there a compilation of all the different tracks; i.e. avoiding duplication.

Of course if he has a different set list every night then ... selected highlights.

I suppose this would / could only happen in the CD age. Imagine a vinyl issue.

This may be due to licensing laws as well. Something to do with some recordings being fifty years old and out of the original recording copyright control. Not sure about that though.

Audience recordings being sold :( Wonder if the original tapers get a fee. The Doors released a box set of such like recordings (4 CDs called Boot Yer Butt). Terrible title and selling audience recordings especially on mass was a worse idea. Stil I think the tapers were paid. Fripp does that; sell his bootlegs including the audience recordings. Remember when he moaned that bootlegging was akin to rape. And then collects and sells the er, evidence.

Some are good field recordings but given the quality should be issued at a real knock down price. The Doors set was v. expensive. Ok if you have to have everything but for the more general listener not really recommended.

Still Dylan's going to be repackaged and re licensed until long after everyone's great great grandchildren are dust in the wind so we shall see what happens.
