I'm doing a cycle through my collection chronologically by recorded date or released date if not available.  I noticed
Genesis From Genesis To Revelation 1969 (1968 Feb.) Mar. 229 4/18/08 21
Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band Trout Mask Replica 1969 (1968 Aug.) Mar. 211 1/1/92
Both started in 1968 and both finished in March of 1969.
Interesting. LOL

Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

I am bracing myself for Trout Mask.  I much prefer Genesis. heheheh.  Still maybe one day it will click with me.  I much prefer any other Beefheart album.

I might add that the Genesis debut doesn't get the respect it deserves.  A very well done set of songs considering how young they were.

None of you deserve the almighty Beefheart. Begone, fools!

Clap

as opposed to their overrated and over ppreciatived attempts to be a intellectual and instrumentally interesting prog band. LOL Give me that album anyday over the sh*t sandwich that was the Lamb Angry FGtR was a merely a preview, sidetracked by a decade, of the great band they were to become Thumbs Up

I think the reason I found Trout Mask to be really difficult listening music was that I had gotten into Bruce Hampton before I heard it,  By the way, I'm a huge fan of Lamb. heheheheh

TMR is a classic; FGTR was a demo

classic demo... it is Genesis you know... if flawed half baked lame prog albums of theirs can be considered 5 star masterpieces... then pop demos with scores of great songs can be.. ummm.. classic!

That TMR is winning is good. That TMR is currently winning by one vote is pitiful. TMR wins against any Genesis album (SEBTP is debatable).

If i had a choice of having a red hot poker shoved up my bottom or having to listen to Trout Mask Replica, I'd think seriously and probably choose the poker.

FGTR isn't great, but it's much the better of the two choices.

Trout Mask Replica is perhaps the most overrated album in the history of overrating. I would suggest you listen to Safe as Milk in order to hear an actually good Beefheart album (thank you, Ry Cooder). That being said, the Genesis album blows as well. Oh well, no vote.

^ Agreed but I voted TMR just could bring myself to vote Genesis.............. Safe as Milf is much better. TMR was not much than a field recording done by Zappa....
