and there are a lot of GREAT albums that folks haven't heard yet. This the time of year when a ton of bands are releasing their new albums.

I'd like to see members put forth some of the little known albums (say, albums that have not yet received enough ratings/reviews to enter the PA year's Top 100 list) that NEED to be heard. (As in, "It'd be a shame if this album went unnoticed.")

I put forward a few here:

Norway's ILL WICKER's amazing prog folk album, Untamed

Australia's STARE AT THE CLOUDS'  with its ALCEST-like This Clear Divide

Ohio's amazingly eclectic AXON-NEURON with Metamorphosis

Poland's spacey, CURE and THE CHURCH-like STARSABOUT with the gorgeous Halflights

The amazing production and sound of Carson Schnackenberg's Acrylic Road under the working name of THE ARBORIST

TONY PATTERSON and NICK MAGNUS's gorgeous crossover effort, Equations of Meaning

Israel's Berklee trained eclectic folk/world music artist with the Roy Buchanan guitar touch, GADI CAPLAN with Morning Sun

Scotland's David Gilmour-like ALI FERGUSON with The Sequence of Moments

Seattle's Chapman Stick lover, Jon Davis plus the band MORAINE in their East-West, jazz-folk blend in the self-titled album from ZHONGYU

Three pop stars from Milano that contrived to recreate ROBERT WYATT's Canterbury sound with the self-titled album, The Winstons

Second Split the sophomore album from Spain's Canterbury revivalists, AMOEBA SPLIT

Greece's folk electronica band, GRAVITYSAYS_I, has an excellent new album out called, Quantum Unknown

Poland has a group, SIGNAL TO NOISE RATIO, that oddly mixes a kind of Kosmisches AFTER CRYING-DEAD CAN DANCE-KRAFTWERK sound on Work in Progress

So, come on people:  Find time for some of this awesome new music before it's time to do your year-end lists!

PROG IS NOT DEAD; IT IS VERY MUCH ALIVE AND WELL IN THIS, THE 21ST CENTURY!!!

Thanks for your list -- I've printed it out, and plan to give each of these albums their day in court.

Funny that I should notice this post just now, as I was just thinking about how often it's the more obscure releases that top my own list of ten (or whatever number I settle on).  Three of my undersung favorites of this year:

THENCE: We Are Left With A Song -- Finnish band's long-awaited second disc, an immaculately produced wave of Anathema/Katatonia/Cynic-style beauty.

OCEANS OF SLUMBER: Winter -- Veering between the brutal and the sublime; epic prog-goth metal with soulful female vocals, and a lovely reading of "Nights in White Satin" to boot.

SAVOLDELLI CASARANO BARDOSCIA: The Great Jazz Gig In The Sky -- From the Moonjune label, an avant-jazz re-interpretation of DSOTM that's bold, beautiful, and not afraid to take on the experimental spirit of the early Floyd.
And if you can't be with the prog you love, honey, love the prog you're with.

^ that Oceans Of Slumber album: Winter definitely gets high praise from me.
One of this years best in my world.
A true masterpiece. Really rivals a lot of other favourites for me this year.
Also, a more familiar name in the prog world, Vangelis has released a terrific new album with Rosetta. Worth checking out.

The Devin Townsend Project really isn't that widely known, but Transecendence I feel is a keeper.
It's a real good mix of a bunch of his old styles to cap off this style of experimental metal to bed.

Lastly. To cap off 2016 I still await that new Fields of The Nephilim installment: Prophesy but no official date has been given yet.

Anyhow. 2016 is a pretty good year. I will also check out a few on your list, Mr. Fischer.

Take care all. ;)
Gimmie my headphones now!!! 🎧🤣

Nau Aletheia - S/T

These guys aren't on the archives just yet, but they should be getting added to eclectic pretty soon. They released their first EP back in May and while the quality is a tad patchy, they show incredible promise. I'm really excited to hear a full length album from them. If you liked the new Bubu EP, you should like this one, as well (features the same violin player), though this one is even more all-over-the-place musically.

Speaking of which, Bubu - Resplandor, is another one of the finest releases this year that hasn't been getting its fair share of love.

Also, Griot - Gerald; incredibly produced and very accomplished in its brevity. Highly recommended!

I didn't know they had a new album out, I will have to check this out. Presumably this is a concept album about the life of the former Buzzcocks lead vocalist?

I'll do my best to make a fair list. Three albums stand out, but there are some others well worth a high ranking. The last recommendable that I have heard is Edensong's Years in the Garden of Years. I have to hear North Sea Radio Orchestra's new one yet.

Edit: Added to the recommendations.

I do like the Headspace album All That You Fear Is Gone a lot which I would happily put alongside more mainstream releases from the likes of Opeth ,Marillion ,Haken etc in terms of quality. For those unaware its the second release by a band that is lead by ex Threshold lead singer Damien Wilson and Adam Wakeman . Its pretty heavy stuff which is where I like my prog to go nowadays. I also like the Katatonia album Fall of Hearts , a band I was totally unaware until a few months ago.

^ Damian is still with Threshold.

Fates Warning's new album is great.
New Katatonia was a grower, I found it enjoyable after a few listens, on first listen I thought it was rather dull (or I did not have the patience at that time, I dunno).

Redemption and Circus Maximus did pretty well this year as well, enjoyable albums.
I love the new Jelly Jam album - Profit.
Explosion on the Sky pleasantly surprised me.
I haven't listened to the new Mono album but I will, I like this band a lot.

I've listened to the new Marillion twice so far, I liked what I heard, needs more listens though

And just out

Ingranaggi della Valle - Warm Spaced Blue

Fabulous album! Like Seven Impale they expanded their sound palette and stretched themselves while trying to maintain and develop identity.

Unlike Seven Impale, Ingranaggi knocked it way out of the park!

Also, from the archival release category...

SBB - Hofors 1975
If you love Karlstad, you can't miss this one.

Thanks for the heads up Todd, anything that sounds like Karlstad is my kind of thing!
Looking at their page now I see they have a new studio release as well.
