My choice is definitely Cygnus from the album Farewell to Kings, much more interesting track for listening. Part II Hemispheres honestly bores me, first instrumental 3 minutes are great, after that song becomes repetitive and quite boring.

I totally agree. I don't really care for either part but I voted for Voyage since it doesn't go on for quite as long, and has more (albeit scarce) memorable moments. |

Love "Book I".
Hemispheres is decent, but a bit too "prog by the numbers" rather than being inspired. |

yeah the sadly underrated Necromancer bitchslaps either of these criminally overrated Rush tracks.. at least the first one is halfway interesting.. nothing like hearing the sound of Geddy sucked down a Black hole...however the 2nd part goes off into the previously charted Genesis territory of being dead f**king BORING!!!!!!! |

Repetitive? What song are you listening to?

As far as I remember I go with the first one. I feel the second one doesn't hold well for such a long song. For Rush epics, I still prefer 2112.

The first one is among my all time favorite songs, so easy vote for that.

Hemispheres Book 2 is a suite of numbers that relate a story. Might be a bit much for those with "excite me" attention spans.
Sometimes prog can be subtle. Not recommended for metal heads I've found. |

Went with Book II. It just gets more spins from me. Don't get why people think it's boring. Don't get why people think Camera Eye is boring either. Of course, Book I is epic as well and ranks up there with The Necromancer as the most "metal" Rush.

Metal can be just as subtle, Chevelle's Sci-Fi Crimes album is a perfect example of that.

Oh I know there is subtle metal. That's not what I meant. Sugar fix metal fans. I'm thinking of a metal head who found Beardfish boring whereas the metal he was hooked into was formatted pop songs only with metal guitar. The same sort of thing over and over. Any let up in the 240bpm distorted frenzy was a wimp out. |

Oh yeah, pop-metal (Well to me it's barely even metal) like Amaranthe certainly is anything but subtle. I wish Beardfish had dabbled in metal more, as The Void is a great album.

Not pop metal. Not say, Bon Jovi. No, this was fully charged up thrash 'n' gore etc. Its just that with standard song structure and constant similarity of sounds, tempii and rhythms the effect was to create (in metal terms) the same thing as a radio feed. No disruption to the continuity; real comfort zone stuff. Any change in the audio-scape will not be tolerated. |

Well I love relentless thrash/death metal like that, but what I don't like is closed-mindedness like that. Variety is the spice of life, and that's why I can listen to Cannibal Corpse or Abnormality and immediately follow it up with Gentle Giant or Rush.
