Topic: Prog veteran? Posted: October 27 2016 at 21:34 |
Hello Archives!
I've been reading from the main site for years but never realized you had a forum. I digested mountains of prog rock/metal/avant-garde when I was a teen but I am foremost a contemporary classical music fanatic and composer.
My favorite bands include but aren't limited to:
Henry Cow Voivod Devin Townsend Yes John Zorn Shining (the norway band) Frank Zappa Meshuggah This Heat The Residents Gong
To name a few that I'm either really into right now or have been a huge impact on me.
I am looking forward to discovering more 'obscure' prog on here, I know quite a lot that isn't on that list. So Hi!

Classical music isn't dead, it's more alive than it's ever been. It's just not on MTV.

Welcome. Henry Cow, The Residents, Gong, and This Heat rank amongst my favourite bands (also like Shining, the Norway band, and Zappa muchly), and classical music was my first love.

Awesome!! I started getting into Shining quite recently and fell in love. Henry Cow is really one of those bands that surprise you the more you listen. Zappa, The Residents and Gong have a really sentimental value to me, aside for my love and enjoyment of their work . The innovation in This Heat also still surprises me!

Greetings!
I'm really just starting to get into the avant side of things myself. It's always an adventure going through the obscure stuff; that's where all the real gems are. And who doesn't love Yes?
Welcome aboard!

Yes, avantgarde music has always been my thing. With most bands that fall into the 'mainstream', you find my favorite songs are usually their strangest
Also, I'm finding it hard to understand that I left off John Zorn/Naked City and his 12,000,000 other bands/projects
