Hey Progarchives

I'm foremost a classical composer but obviously because I'm on this site, prog rock/metal and avantgarde music is in my blood.

The soundcloud page is a bit cluttered, I admit. The way I function as a composer/musician is the the opposite of Frank Zappa or John Zorn. Classical music is the biggest thing for me, my influences range from Renaissance composers like Palestrina to Brahms or Mahler to Bartok or Stravinsky to Xenakis (my favorite composer), Stockhausen, Ligeti and a whole trunk more, way too much to list. 

Some of my favorite prog/metal/avantgarde bands/artists can be found in my introduction post. 

Be aware as you check out the soundcloud that it's not an entire representation of what I am as a composer, because it takes a lot of work and time to be able to express all the aspects of yourself, but it's something.

In the prog world, I'm very experienced composing and have had several (smaller, non-commercial at this point) bands. When I was 15-16, I was already completely immersed in composing 30 minute suites (like eg. Yes, Dream Theater or Rush) 

I don't want to get too into detail unless someone is really that interested, but I'm here and looking forward to my time on Progarchives Big smile

Particularly great to have more fans of Xenakis, Stockhausen, and Ligeti.... For my personal list I'd add Penderecki, and for someone who was alive at the same time as Palestrina, I'm more of a Tallis guy. I haven't been listening to nearly enough art/ academic music over recent years. Soundcloud won't open for me now (says the site cannot be reached_, but I will check it out later.

If I was to write a list of my favourite composers or composers I love and listen to on a regular basis, it'd probably take up a whole page (and then some)

I love a great deal of Penderecki's work, I find his development as a composer to be a fascinating case study as well.
I love Tallis' music too, there feels like something eerily modern about his music at times.

Good stuff, I like your electroacoustic music (and I love musique concrete qualities). The Parsecs cycle is very well-done, as are the Bagatelle ones, and I really like Larghissimo.

Sometimes I really feel like Tallis was far ahead of his time. I've heard music being lauded at this very site for the choral harmonies, and I've thought Tallis was doing it so much better and in a much more advanced way all those centuries ago. Palestrina too of course in some deliberate use of dissonance.

The Parsecs Cycle is still far from being finished, it's 12 parts + the prologue and epilogue. It's got a very detailed concept too.
The Bagatelles for wind Quintet aren't finished either, it's an ongoing process, but I'm glad you like it!

Have you checked out some of the snippets of the prog rock/metal songs? they're midi like almost everything else but it'll have to do.

You've done well with midi. Maybe one day you'll get to work ina studio with some of this stuff:




I checked the prog/ metal ones out too, but the others work better with midi for me. Despite not liking them so much sound-wise, they are good composition-wise.

Midi is only temporary, I'll/do have people in the near future performing various of my classical works.

And like the reverse of Zappa/Zorn I meantioned. I'll have a band together in the coming years. I don't have the necessary equipment to go recording the prog rock/metal stuff right now, so midi is the way (for now)

The current consensus is the midi is always s***

I also forgot to mention that I've been writing a folk album the past few months. I love folk music to bits as well (both american folk and traditional folk)

I like the sentiment of doing an album with just me singing with an acoustic guitar, then getting into all the megalomaniac chaos  LOL
