Both had great voices, were heavily influenced by opera/musical, and unfortunately died of AIDS. And while Freddie is praised as one of the greatest (if not the greatest) rock singers, Klaus Nomi unrightfully never really gained broad popularity.
So, Klaus:

Ummm...unrightfully? Honestly, I've never heard of this Klaus guy, but based on the 2 videos you provided (and I have to assume you would provide his best material for your poll), there is an excellent reason he never really gained broad popularity: he is not very good.

I won't say Klaus Nomi wasn't good (listen to Jobriath to hear a "not very good" singer), but his repertoire wasn't made of the best choices: it lacked some coherence.
But I think that his main problem was that he started his career a bit too late: could have he released his music a few years before (let's say, around 1978), he could have had a wider audience.

Oh, how dark and sad are these times in which Klaus Nomi is forgotten by the young & the restless! O tempora, o mores! Disapprove
