we are watching an episode of "Marie Brand", a German cop series. Marie Brand and her partner Jürgen Simmel have to solve crimes.

Brand is super-intelligent; she is the brains of the duo. Simmel is the action man; he is not stupid, just of normal intelligence. he is played by Hinnerk Schönemann, one of our favorite actors, who appears in two other German cop series too.

both characters are quite weird. Brand solves extremely difficult mathematical problems as a hobby. she also has a special ability: she can write with both hands at the same time (different things, of course). the interesting thing is that the actress who plays her, Mariele Millowitsch, really can do it; she is often shown in full writing with both hands.

Simmel has lots of odd habits and opinions. he is also a macho with permanently changing girlfriends.

there is a running gag in the series (literally): some shady character runs away; Simmel then slips out of his jacket (which is dutifully hold by Brand) and runs after him. this happens in almost every episode.

each episode is 90 minutes long, and there are no commercial breaks in between

The Bridge - Series 4 - has finally arrived on the BBC, so I'm enjoying the return of Saga. A reasonably good start, but hoping it notches up the thrills over the next few weeks, as the previous stories did, as the episodes unfold.

On my third entire viewing of Game of Thrones.   I think it may be the best series ever.   Repeated viewings are almost like watching a whole new show.   It is that rich, complex and satisfying... and amazing music, too.

Unforgotten - superb UK police procedural series with great acting, believable characters and an emotional empathy. Just completed Series 2 and waiting for Series 3 to get going for a few episodes, so my wife and I can binge watch one weekend!

It's MLB.com Freeview day - so this Limey has just seen his team the Braves 4-0 v the Marlins and watching the end of Pirates v Brewers and should be able to catch another couple of finales too. All with prog on the headphones and an Aussie Shiraz on the side.
