 Topic: Your favourite Genesis/related late 70s trio?

The late 70s saw the ex members of Genesis getting into their stride - what is your favourite trio of albums from this period? (Apart from Phillips, I saw all these artists on several tours during this period - it was quite a time)

Let me be the first to cast a vote for Genesis then  Love those albums and find the 80s pop sauce accompanying them quite refreshing. No mellotron sure but who needs that when you've got electronic drums 
Steve Hackett may have released the finest album out of the bunch with Acolyte, but the rest of his I can live without. Not a big Gabriel man either...that is as far as his 70s oevre goes. So is an absolute cracker of an album! Ant Phillips puts me to sleep...but maybe I should give him a chance come the next fullmoon. It has certainly been a while.

This one was tough. Steve Hackett in the end, maybe because his work is most in vein of old Genesis. Saying so I have to add I love Gabriel's work too and the same (to a smaller extent) I could say about Anthony Phillips. Only Genesis records from era after ATTWT are somehow less interesting.

Really tough decision on this one.
Mr. Hackett for the win, with Mr. Gabriel and Mr. Phillips tied for a VERY close second.
All different "feels" from these albums.

Good prog influenced pop music but way below the other three.

Being a Genesis fan, I think my favorite era was the 76-79 era: Trick of the Tail (including spot the pigeon EP) Wind & Wuthering And Then there Were Three.
I heard that before or around the Duke era, Conny Plank told Phil Collins that he was a soul singer. That ruined it. Phil stopped singing and started shouting and soul-ing it up which I really think he sucks at. He was more choirboy during the 76-79 era. I think his ego exploded during and after Duke. Still love all things Genesis, but here are my favorites and the reasons why.

Surprise, surprise...the answer is Hackett. Spectral Mornings is a masterpiece, fully equal to any of the Gabriel era Genesis albums  except for the Lamb (but then it's not a double album, is it?  ). Gabriel's finest is Security, not of the first three. Anthony Phillips stuff is quite wonderful in a subdued way, although it doesn't leave me with any lasting sparkle. With the Genesis trio, I'll leave it be with no reply at all.

Hackett was a strong contender on the strength of Spectral Mornings, but I figured the pastoral beauty of Geese and the Ghost was enough to warrant a vote.

Gabriel's first three albums are excellent,and so therefore,I couldn't vote for anything else! PG3(melt) is pure class,and contains my favourite Gabriel song Intruder. Special mention to The Geeese and The Ghost which is a very special album too!
