Marillion and Kansas are up there but Opeth are my pick.

Van der Graaf Generator and Gong belong to my absolutely favorite bands, so they are out of this poll. I'm not too familiar with Opeth, but from what I heard of them they are not my cup of tea.
but anyway, that aural abomination named Marillion deserves the vote. there is only one album of them that I like, and that's "Fugazi". in the Fish-era they did at least have a vocalist with some character, but Hogarth's voice abhors me; it is devoid of any character. and don't let me start on the music...

I really like all of these bands except Opeth which I like only specific songs of. So Opeth it will be.

I too dislike Hogarth-Marillion but on the other hand I like Fish-Marillion so much that it was an easy vote over Opeth for me.

This is easy...I saw Opeth once - terrible experience - can't understand why they are considered 'prog'.

They are considered prog metal which evolved separately from the prog rock scene and has its own norms about what is and isn't prog metal. So it may not quite sound like prog rock but to my mind still a far less controversial pick than Tori Amos.

At least Tori Amos is good! The Opeth dirge I saw had nothing 'prog' about it.

Maybe but whether it's good or bad is not what decides whether it's prog. I mean, Stevie Wonder is better than both, so?

Fair enough. My basic point to begin with, having had the misfortune to hear them live as well as their albums, I don't regard them as 'prog' - even as a metal band they are middling.

Dead right. If Camel wasn't there, Marillion would be my favourite.
VDGG for me. Their music can be good at times, but the vocals.............words fail me as to how awful they are.

Opeth and Tangerine Dream for me. Although I generally don't care for electronic prog I might like some Tangerine Dream if I'd investigate them more seriously. My vote then goes to Opeth which although I love metal I don't like their music at all.
