Even if you don't like any, which one is the least awful?...in your opinion.

The Mars Volta produced the single best album out of all of these (Frances The Mute), but overall, Henry Cow takes it. Not a particularly big fan of the first four, although each have produced some worthwhile material. Never really got Tool either; haven't listened much to Weather Report, GYBE is pretty good; Can is great.

This sums it up nicely for me.

Really tough.... As I have more Magma albums than albums by any of the others I went with Magma. That said, I love Henry Cow, Can, various Soft Machine albums (especially Third) and at least a couple of Weather Report albums (the debut and especially I Sing the Body Electric). I also like Godspeed and appreciate Frances the Mute. Henry Cow is the most consistently great for me.

Just a fanboy passin' through.

Henry Cow is my favorite from this list!
It's hard to beat a band that has Fred Frith and Tim Hodgkinson (who is also a brilliant classical composer), combined with Dagmar Krause, who is one of my favorite female singers! Embarrassed
I also love Weather Report, Can and Godspeed (though I haven't explored much of the later) Big smile

Classical music isn't dead, it's more alive than it's ever been. It's just not on MTV.

From this list, The Mars Volta...
He neither drank, smoked, nor rode a bicycle. Living frugally, saving his money, he died early, surrounded by greedy relatives. It was a great lesson to me -- John Barrymore
