You may think that as much as you like but it doesn't make it any more correct.

Scandinavia is defined by the mountain range called Skanderna. It runs through Norway, Sweden and nort west Finland. So yes, Charles R is more right than you are. Wink

I grow more besotted with my beloved Finland by the day.

My latest find is Veli Kujala's album Hyperorganism. Not prog, mind you, but wonderful.

Had to go with Sweden, despite some great RIO from Finland.  Finland also has some of my favorite rock and folk-rock musicians, but I guess they don't count.  I should note that the first prog band I saw from the Nordic countries was Danish:  the great Burnin' Red Ivanhoe.  Also, Secret Oyster, Alrune Rod and Doctor Dopojam.  I lived in Denmark for a year.

I believe if you ask a Finn, he/she will self-identify as Nordic, rather than Scandinavian, despite the admitted historical ambiguity.  The Finnish language isn't remotely related to the Scandinavian languages, or to anything else in Europe except for Hungarian and Estonian (and some dying regional languages in Russia).  They're Uralic languages.  All other European languages (except for Basque) are Indo-Aryan.  Iceland is also considered Nordic.  Icelandic is Indo-Aryan, but it split off from its Germanic roots a lot earlier than the Scandinavian 3 and isn't really mutually intelligible, the way they are.

Yes, I agree. But it's all about languages. How about the history and the culture? I think Finland is the part of the Swedish Empire - or mayby part of the Russian Empire.

... To which I'd add Coronia Dans (same crowd as BRI and Secret Oyster

I own the following (I got rid of Rainbow/Midnight Sun)

However in the 90's and 00's, outside the weird post-rock of Efterklang, I don't remember anything else

If it was that easy, then Denmark wouldn't be part of Scandinavia...
And I had to look it up, since I thought Finland is a fairly flat land, but yeah, there is this odd Finniish protuberance stretching between Sw and Nor where the highest altitude is 1017m.

We can talk about a cultural Scandinavia (or even an ethnic one, FTM), which includes Iceland, and why not, even Greenland) and Finland... OK, the Finns are ethnically vastly different than the rest of the Scandics, since their origins are Altaic, but there is a strong Swedish presence in the country... The Finns have spent hundreds of years tossed & turned between Russia and Sweden, and give them a choice, they'll go for the lesser of two evils: the Swedes.

Finland. Pekka Pohjola is the main reason for this, though Sweden is just behind ...
