Meaning early Yes mainly, I supposed these three to be the three whales of classic eclectic prog.

Ooh, bringing out the big guns! I like it. Thumbs Up

It's pretty hard to compare these three as they all took such radically different approaches to music; most of the time it's almost hard to believe they're classified under the same genre.

I had to vote for Yes as they're my favourite band right now, period. King Crimson is a close second, though. As for Gentle Giant? They trail off behind the other two by a fair margin, but they still have 3 albums that I'd consider perfect or near-masterpieces under their belt.

Gentle Giant and King Crimson are immensely close, with Yes not far behind. I reluctantly vote Crimson.

Gentle Giant easily. They have a discography with only one weak album imo.

Yes has a handful of great albums with many lame albums, and there are only a couple KC albums I like.

Giant wins
Then Yes
Crimson last

All I like is prog related bands beginning late 60's/early 70's. Their music from 1968 - 83 has the composition and sound which will never be beaten. Perfect blend of jazz, classical, folk and rock.

When it comes to composing melodies GG are way ahead.

Yes made 2 or 3 nice albums (Fragile and Close to the Edge), had some great songs in the eighties, but really can't rock my boat.

King Crimson had some nice songs scattered on their early albums, but no album is great as a whole. Their eighties albums are superb though.

Gentle Giant, each album captivates from beginning to end. Even though some songs are not my favorite, I can listen to entire albums. Also they have at least 5 or 6 great albums.

So I voted for Gentle Giant.
Although I'd pick Barclay James Harvest or Camel over Gentle Giant any day of the week.

King Crimson remained progressive and innovative throughout their career with top highlights all over the place. Clear winners for me.

Yes is my #4 artist.  That hasn't changed for decades, and I doubt it would ever change.  Crimson is top 10ish, for me--#7 or 8 usually.  (Only my top six have had their positions cemented for decades.)  Gentle Giant might be in my top 100, although I'm not sure exactly where they'd end up.  If not in my top 100, they should at least be in my top 200.  I love a ton of music that's not prog, so a lot of other artists get in the way.  However, there are also a lot of other prog and prog-related artists that I'd rank above Gentle Giant.

Keep in mind that I'd say I have a "top 2000" at least, so anyone in my top 100-200 is someone I really love.

KC.....as much as I like Yes,  Fripp's band is still my all time favorite. Gentle Giant has some nice tracks but they never struck a deep chord with me.
