Of the ones I know it comes down to Thy Catefalque and Oranssi Pazuzu.
Tough call there...will give it to TC.
Dig me...But don't...Bury me I'm running still, I shall until, one day, I hope that I'll arrive Warning: Listening to jazz excessively can cause a laxative effect.
Nothing I know here, but I like Floating Points. It reminds me of Bowie's outside.
If you oike that one Pierre, then you should try out Oren Ambarchi's Hubris. Similar in feel and sound although with the added bonus of some deliciously infused Ashra/Göttsching vibes.
I think you'd like the Fire!, Deerhoof and Jeremy Flower tracks as well. Definitely not the kind of modern prog you usually dislike (like me).

Heh I kinda snuck that in seeing as it isn't listed on PA. This EP though fits perfectly well within PE's framework imo...but it might be wise to wait for the next full length release. If it's in the same vein as the debut then PE (and indeed PA) is out of the question. Great contemporary electronica but nothing remotely close to prog rock.
Btw, as mentioned above, Oren Ambarchi's Hubris comes highly recommended if you dig Kuiper. Sorta like contemporary electronics with a couple of Krautrock touches in the mix. Doesn't sound retro at all either;)

My goodness, what a treasure trove, and all from bands outside my experience...looks like I'll be playing catch-up over 2017, and happily so: discovering new music from obscure bands tucked away in the four corners of the world is the key to eternal youth.
But my first choice from this lot would have to be Fire!...something about that incredible unplugged sound really pushes my buttons (in their current alignment).
A close runner-up: Deerhoof. I like their name, love the fact that they hail from home metropolis (San Francisco), and adore the fact that they did a cover of My Pal Foot Foot on a Shaggs tribute album...
Thanks for the introduction..!

My pleasure Michael Btw I still consider you one of the absolute finest reviewers on this site. Thanks for all the fish mate! If you dig that Fire! track, then I highly recommend you check out sax man Mats Gustafsen's full blown experimental big band Fire! Orchestra. Any of their albums will do really. Like attending a delirious bird convention. Beautiful madness.

Nice pick there Nasir. I trust you've heard the Fire! Orchestra album Ritual too? Have been neglecting it a bit for this Fire! offering lately but plan on revisiting tonight.

^ Yeah, Ritual is a great album, but to me, it's not in the same league as She Sleeps, She Sleeps. That one is a monster. Also, did you listen to that Anna Högberg album? I've been told it's a good one.
Nasir: Would you believe me when I say that i've had that album for months but only spun it once? I remember digging the hell out of it, but right this very minute I can't remember a peep off it. I'll get back to you (just like John).
John: Hi buddy! I hope this (these) poll(s) can make up for the poor recs I've been giving you Not included here but the new Gösta Berlings Saga should be right up your alley. Sounds like Necromonkey and GBS made a baby.

A pretty strong collection. I know and love Floating Points, so they were favourites, but... Thy Catafalque 7/10 Jeremy Flower 9/10 Fire! 8.5/10 Seven Impale 8/10 Dear Hunter 8/10 Oranssi Pazuzu 7/10 Deerhof 6/10 Gong 8.5/10 Gustavo Santhiago 6/10 Floating Points 9.5/10 ...they had to battle hard to make it. Thought about giving the first vote to Jeremy Flower, but no, the best will have it. This was also the first time I heard Kavus Torabi in Gong; I'm impressed! (And still it only made rank 3.)
PS: Has anyone proposed Floating Points for PA? Isn't this prog?
