Listen to their last few before voting, please, cos I know many of you will vote for the first two albums, but IMHO, they got proggier with each new album (except for the reformation album)

Love 'em all. Lots. But Shady Grove for me - Nicky Hopkins' finest hour. I think that each and every album they f theirs has been my favourite at some stage. Even Solid Silver, some fine guitar slinging between Cippo and Duncan on that one. Incidentally, Gary D looks a bit worse for wear these days........
And, also, Dino Valente has a most beautiful acid-folk album from 1968, which could (possibly) wipe the floor with all QMS......

Shady Gove is a very important album, because they opened up to something else than guitars and therefore widened their horizons... fantastic Edward The Shirt Grinder.

Yes SG, JFL, WAM are all very good, but I went for Comin' Thru, because the band had almost become a brass-rock band by then... Even then,  they kept on, Duncan picking up the empty space left by Cipo. If every band could end their career with such a great album, the overall RnR legacy might be better. Hard to believe the band was on its last leg as critics and historians would have you believe . I'd say the previous Quicksilver (Eagle on the cover) is their weakest, though

The great thing is that they had an obvious hit in every album: Fresh Air for JFL, What About Me in the same-titled album, I Found Love in Quicksilver, Doing Time In The USA in Comin' Thru and Gypsy Lights for Solid Silver

This band also features one of the very best series of artwork, rivalling with Floyd and Yes, though they used four different artistes for their first seven albums.

I had to go with the first album.
Pride Of Man was receiving a lot of airplay and was the first song I heard by the band.
Gold And Silver is an excellent instrumental track and The Fool is an epic ballad.
These may sound a bit dated to some today but back then they were very impressive.
This album was one of my first 4 track tape purchases.

the only really worthy track on Happy Trails (I mean the rest of the album is Bo Diddley-derived)

But this is awesome

Here goes - my picks of QMS ;
(Acapulco) Gold And Silver
The Fool
Maiden Of The Cancer Moon (Freiberg rips on the bass)
Calvary
Shady Grove
Flute Song
Edward, The Mad Shirt Grinder (Hopkins did an abridged version on his 2nd solo album, with George Harrison on guitar !!)
Hope
Fire Brothers
Out Of My Mind
The Truth
Cobra
Gone Again
Fresh Air
What About Me
Long Haired Lady
Doin' Time In The USA
California State Correctional Facility Blues
Gypsy Lights
Flames

..............I once had an LP of a 1989 release which was crap. And not too familiar with the 'rekindled' Quicksilver projects Duncan embarked on since, bar some stuff I streamed, which sounded promising.
Dino's solo LP is beautiful. He must've been so stoned and mellow

A trivial fact about this wonderful San Fran band is that after they issued the 'comeback' album 'Solid Silver' back in 1975, (where bassist David Freiberg shared duties between QMS and Jefferson Starship) they continued to gig in and around the Bay Area into 1978, without any 'product' hitting the streets (according to Gary Duncan).
Unfortunately a sign of the times - whilst the 'listeners' went straight, the band remained stoned. Such is life.
I've always preferred Quicksilver over The Dead and The Airplane. That's why I often return to my Quicksilver albums over the others. Dunno why, but that's the way it rolls.

if I have to rank Frisco bands (in terms of albums), I'd say

Airplane (without JS, but including the Slick/Kantner solo albums)
Santana
QMS

space

TGDead
Janis & Co
Moby Grape
Steve Miller band
(no order for the last four)

Moby Grape were cool, though for me : QMS, Airplane, The Dead, Santana..........then Santana, Champlin etc.
these folks just knew quality sounds when stoned. Like Floyd, but more approachable. I swear, if I were born circa 1947, and in Frisco, I'd probably be dead by now. And that's no joke..............

Could never get into Champlin Bros, though.

But the LA scene was cool as well, though: Doors, Spirit, Love, etc (not sure all these groups inter-mingled, though like in the Bay Area)... and, of course, the Frisco bands that had to travel to LA to record their albums, since there was no recording studio in SF

Never heard of it... It might have opened in the 70's.

at the risk of disappointed Hugues... flip that and you have my sentiment.  I could roll through every Airplane album chronologically. throw in some live albums and Micky is still beggin' for more Jack....

Only Shady Grove ever sees the light of the CD player these days.. oh that is a fabulous album but for whatever reason QMS never 'grabbed' me the way other contemporary bands did.

Seeing Cipollina live in a North Beach nightclub was one of the great guitar experiences one could have in this town.   We had Carlos and Jerry and Joe, but John was something special.

Well you got the whole album links to change that defective opinion of yours TongueLOL

Actually, I'm considering asking PA for prog-related or proto-prog inclusion.
