Wetton for me...
He neither drank, smoked, nor rode a bicycle. Living frugally, saving his money, he died early, surrounded by greedy relatives. It was a great lesson to me -- John Barrymore

This was very difficult for me.  I am a fan of just about all of these singers.  But words cannot say how overjoyed I was when I heard Jakko Jakszyk was going to be the singer for Crimson.  I've been listening to his solo works for years and always thought he had a phenomenal voice (not to mention the fact that his guitar playing is top notch.  There are moments where he sounds like fripp, or holdsworth, or anyone on guitar.  I think he's a lot more talented then most prog people realize).

But Jakko's voice I think is possibly the most talented flexible and well crafted voice that Crimson has had to date.  And this is saying a lot, as I love all the voices in Crimson.  Here's to hoping that Robert stretches out a little and let's Jakko do some singing in studio.  He is an incredible and sorely underrated musician and talent.  (For reference listen to Jakko's solo stuff.  The 'are my ears on wrong' album is incredible).

Can I get a big hello and welcome for Mitch Miller and the King Crimson Singers!

For decades, I have preferred Wetton over Lake, but in recent times, and before his passing, I have developed a greater appreciation for the Greg.  He gets my vote today.  Belew would be third.  The rest are just there filling a role.

If only evaluating the work they each did for KC, Lake by a somewhat slim margin.  If evaluating them basis their range/repertoire as such, Lake very easily.

I've been listening to KC's latest live albums, and I'm amazed how well he manages to cover all of the back catalogue. Not only does he manage to convey the spirit of the singers of those incarnations featured, but how he, at the same time, manages to make the songs his own is absolutely amazing. An astonishing feat.

Yes, Jakko did a very good job with most of the songs... but hearing him sing Epitaph, he just destroyed the song. That one is for Lake only.

Wetton
Lake
Belew
Boz

Pretty darn near equal, though. I'm willing to bet only Belew can do One Time well.

This. Thumbs Up

Never liked Belew's voice and never will, not a fan of his guitar playing much either.

Boz had the most expressive voice. Lake on the other hand often sounded like a crooner

Lake had the best voice (so I voted for him), but the music they made with Wetton was amazing.
Trust me. I know what I'm doing.
