Tough choice......went with the first because In The Dead of Night is still my fave track by them.

No contest for me. Hands down it is the first album, with Allan Holdsworth on guitar. Jobson's acrobatics and shredding on the electric violin on both albums is magnificent, but the second album is missing the marvelous Holdsworth guitar sounds. Of course, Wetton is an anchor as lead vocalist and bassist on both albums - quite amazing really. Finally, regarding Bruford or Bozzio on drums, that is a toss-up as both of them are stupendous beyond words...

Night After Night. Big smile

I've always preferred the trio to the original lineup for a couple of reasons. First album is stellar, but I think it's a bit of a compromise trying to do a sort of crossover prog along with fusion influences. I really love the solo Bruford stuff and thought that was a great companion to the more commercial-leaning UK stuff. Also, I just have a thing for trios. I used to be a huge Bozzio fan, but less so in more recent years. He's much more into his solo drum performances these days than group efforts, and it showed when I saw the UK reunion in Chicago a few years ago. Bruford and Bonham are probably my two favorite drummers.

And if anyone is wondering, the box set is worth it!

^ Concert Classics vol.4, though not as good-sounding, is a more dynamic performance than Night After Night ~

I have loved Danger Money since it was released,so the choice is obvious for me. Being a big ELP fan at the time, and being appalled by Love Beach,I thought Danger Money was precisely the album that ELP should have made at that point. UK became the new ELP for me,sad it only lasted one album.

I love them both equally!!! Totally different but they both blow me away. Even now.

If I had to pick I would have to go with the debut. Bruford is just so good!!!

Easily their debut, really don't like Danger Money, but I'll probably give it another listen down the road again to see if I changed my mind at all
