Topic: Why Fripp picked Hall over Oates. Posted: February 05 2017 at 15:48 |
I wonder why, why did Robert Fripp pick Darryl Hall over John Oates too collaborate with. Was it becouse of hygene, did not John Oates brush hes teeth. Or was it not caused by bad hygiene but by other causes. What caused Darryl Hall to be picked. Was John Oates not enough progressive minded. I read that Darryl Hall was more into wierd spirritual activities and magick, which was atractive to Robert Fripp. Was not John Oates into exieting spirritual thinking, was he to non-magickal.
what is the answer...

No skinny on why Oates was ignored, but there is this - -
Originally, Fripp envisioned Exposure as the third part of a simultaneous trilogy also comprising Daryl Hall's Sacred Songs and Peter Gabriel's second album aka Scratch, both of which Fripp contributed to and produced. Fripp's aim with the trilogy "was to investigate the 'pop song' as a means of expression. I think it's an incredibly good way of putting forward ideas. I think it's a supreme discipline to know that you have three to four minutes to get together all your lost emotions and find words of one syllable or less to put forward all your ideas. It's a discipline of form that I don't think is cheap or shoddy"

Interesting, and a cool idea Fripp had there, which creates another question. Did Fripp ever conclude the trilogy. what came after Sacred Songs and Scratch.

As David said, the third part of the trilogy was Exposure:

PS: Fripp also intended Exposure to include tracks recorded with Blondie but their record label blocked it. In the end Chris Stein just did the album artwork.

Fear of the moustache, obviously. Seriously though, who wouldn't want to be in the presence of such magnificent whiskers?

Is it Fripp who picked Hall... Or the contrary?
