 Topic: Late 70s Smash Hits!

The late 70s became more confusing for us prog fans as our heroes started appearing on the singles charts! Which of these 'hits' still left the band with some dignity?

Went for Another Brick In The Wall Part 2 for the extra guitar at the start. It was the one my brother bought at the time. Really, really should of voted for "Northern Lights" as that's the best song in the poll. But if it wasn't for nostalgia tinged kneejerk quick voting you wouldn't have a male President!

I'd go for Wonderous Stories as its feels 'complete' (ie no edit needed) although Northern Lights is also very lovely. Fanfare For the Common Man is an uninspiring edit of the better album version. Ironically Aaron Copeland would not sanction its release until he heard the album version!

All beautiful pieces, hard to choose one from the other. Maybe I'll vote for one of them this time, and change mind mind after. Really hard choice. I think Jethro Tull's "The Whistler" should be on this list.

The Whistler wasn't so huge when compared to the other singles, so it was excluded from the list.

OK. Maybe in the US or UK did not do that well, but I remember it made it to the top 10 in Central America and some places like Brasil and Argentina, while the other songs of this list did not, except for Another Brick in the Wall.

I apologise for the Anglocentric nature of this poll. I was inspired when I heard 'Northern Lights' on the radio the other day and considered that the late 70s were paradoxical in that prog became deeply unpopular yet some bands and artists were getting hit singles.

yeah the 'other' option missing..... I'd go with Jon &Vangelis 'I Hear You Now' , still love that song, Anyway these ones look like interesting prog' hits to check out . Oh... think it's too late now .........no forgiving once forgotten the 'Last Train To London'
