Hey guys, new member here. I actually made an account here for one reason: Mercyful Fate is nowhere to be found on ProgArchives.

This seems confusing to me honestly. Go listen to Melissa and Don't Break the Oath and tell me there isn't any prog to be found in either of those albums. I'd say they're more proggy than most of Iron Maiden's albums. I feel when it comes to early/influential prog metal people always forget or overlook Mercyful Fate. Here they would belong in the Prog Related section.

Is there a reason why they aren't on here? If so someone please tell me, since I'm not seeing why they shouldn't be included.

And like I said this is my first post here, so I apologize if this topic is in the wrong section.

Hi there and welcome to the forum.

Mercyful Fate have been discussed on here before. I think most feel they're a fairly straight forward black metal band.
Iron Maiden are here because they were hugely influential in what later became progressive metal...and they're here under prog related, which isn't a prog genre. Metallica is here for the same reason - again not in a proper prog subgenre.

Oh and here are some older threads concerning Mercyful Fate:

Very influential traditional heavy metal band with some excellent riffs. And this is how far it goes as prog is concerned...

They are prog by approach but not by style. You might wonder why Sabbath and Blind Guardian and Nightwish are on here, all of which are no more proggy than Mercyful Fate... Well probably because they are more mainstream and the staff members here are more familiar with their music

And what about King Diamond? His concept albums wouldn't be out of place here, IMO!
