Laurence Sterne (1713 - 1768)
Irish novelist and Anglican clergyman, author of the very unusual, original, and almost surreal The Life and Opinions of Tristam Shandy, Gentleman (1761) The famous novel created quite a stir at the time and is two centuries ahead of its time in it comic idiosyncrasy. Of its reception in London, Sterne wrote: "One half of the town abuse my book as bitterly, as the other half cry it up to the skies—the best is, they abuse it and buy it, and at such a rate, that we are going on with a second edition, as fast as possible."
It's certainly the oddest old book I've had the pleasure to read.

"And, has thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!'
He chortled in his joy.

George Washington Carver (1860 - 1943).
American botanist and inventor: The Black Leonard.

Remarks:
1. He should be in the letter C but since he's always forgotten I found a niche for him here.
2. Carver was born a slave. How many genius have mankind lost due to slavery and extreme poverty? How advanced could we be as society if all those people had a voice, an opportunity?

Xerxes 1 (518–465 BC)
"Xerxes the Great" the fourth "king of kings" of Persia. He ruled from 486 BC until his assassination in 465 BC by the leader of the royal bodyguards.
That reminds me of how Anwar Sadat died!
"And, has thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!'
He chortled in his joy.

Wing Commander (RAF) F.F.E. Yeo-Thomas.
Forest Frederick Edward "Tommy"[1] Yeo-Thomas GCMC & Bar (17 June 1902 – 26 February 1964) was a British Special Operations Executive (SOE) agent in the Second World War. Codenamed "SEAHORSE" and "SHELLEY" in the SOE, Yeo-Thomas was known by the Gestapo as "The White Rabbit". His particular sphere of operations was Occupied and Vichy France.

Just yesterday, I was reading about the "Comet Line" and discovered a great number of really courageous men and women who worked behind the Nazi lines during WWII. This dude, Yeo-Tomas was one of them.
