What do you think the most overrated or overhyped album is to you.

For me it will always be Wish you were here, I never really got why it is considered one of the best in prog rock, I don't think it is even the best by Pink Floyd. Other than Shine on You Cray Diamond, the albums seems very bland to me.

Most of the Prog Metal stuff is quite difficult for me to digest. Too much repetition, solos are quite similar, and I can't see much inventiveness in the genre. Of course it's a very personal opinion, but no matter how much I've tried, I cannot get into the genre, and find all the classic metal albums that are compared to the classics of Progressive Rock, are simply not even close.

more sheets will be needed, there can never be too many threads on overratedness. If you are sick of it, just don't come to the thread, very simple.

You don't have to waste your time complaining when you can just not come.

I don't understand all the love for Genesis, but probably a lot of people would consider overrated the albums in my own top 100 list. Reading about prog-metal, which I don't distinguish from heavy prog, let me suggest the last Riverside: Love Fear and the Time Machine. I listen to prog since the early 70s and that album is now in my top 100 together with Ayreon's The Human Equation
Curiosity killed a cat, Schroedinger only half.

As I wrote (wearily) on another poll.  Each to their own.  I lived through the late 70s when prog became pretty much reviled.  We need to stick together!  There are a number of bands that are regularly lauded here (without naming names) that have little merit.  There are others that are not really prog at all, but people seem to salivate over them.  Each to their own.

Ok...since you are new, I will play in your sandbox. For starters please define "overrated or overhyped", what it means to you....Then we'll go from there.
Your examples/reasons are too vague, because you think something is "bland" means its "overrated or overhyped" Confused

You don't have to waste your time writing about someone complaining. As you have only been here on PA about 3 seconds maybe you should realize that contributors all love each other here on PA. Spread the word!

Me as well. I was a fairly large metal head in the 80s and listened to a lot of Iron Maiden but the whole prog metal scene just eludes me. I want to like it but can't get into it

All of it is crappy. The only reason we all listen to this garbage is because we don't have lives.

I feel, didn't mean to come off as rude, I just get a little salty when people complain about threads like these.

All love from me, sorry my dude!

Nothing is over rated. You get many albums and artists that are underrated or even incorrectly rated - usually in a confusion over genre (prog / hard rock) versus sales format (classic rock).

Where is the limit on over rating and why? Granted one can hear too much of something (apparently Rush, Floyd, Zeppelin - except me) find it interesting that people blame the music and the artist for this rather than their listening habits or the medium by which it is over heard - usually radio I think.
