Is anyone on this forum using Spotify to listen to music? I hope so!
I've dedicated most of my free time to create specialised Spotify playlists. I'm a jazz and progressive rock fan. My favourite period is the 70s. Here is an example of one my playlists, Český a Slovenský Prog : Czech & Slovak Rock & Jazz from the 70s. I used Progarchives a.o. sites to do my research. I never thought of sharing the final result on these forums. Other interesting playlists (i have made) for progrock fans: You can find more on Spotify Profile: http://open.spotify.com/user/jazzwhat Contact me for feedback and questions! I'm currently working on a Hungarian prog playlist.

With feedback i meant feedback on the playlists. Not if you like or dislike using a streaming service.

I'm not really into Spotify or Pandora, since you have to listen to what they play for you, and not what you would choose, but I'll check your playlists and see where it takes me.

Yesyesyes. I have a couple prog or partly prog playlists and some playlists that I'd like some suggestions on adding to them. ...will post them when I get home but it looked like this needed someone to get the ball rolling.

Manuel, that isn't true. You can play what you want on Spotify. What do you think so far of the playlists?

No you don't, at least not on Spotify you don't. You play what you like. |

I used to lament the lack of support for Prog listeners. However, lately Spotify has been creating "Daily Mixes" which can have diverse elements of what I listen to (on Spotify), and that seems a way to serve the user base with more obscure tastes. However, their algorithms (I bet) still have a sort of "people want to hear the hits" logic to it. So it will often include Marrillion from Misplaced Childhood or Clutching Straws, and usually Lavender or Kaliegh. So a nice mixture of can be ruined by the merely at-one-time-however it seems to stay away from Genesis Invisible Touch type of intrusions.

I'm also on Spotify.
Here's a link to my profile: https://open.spotify.com/user/mlkpad14 I'm working on creating a large and orderly prog playlist, but that's a long term project, and it will not be released for probably another month or two. What I do have: A hard rock / bluesy playlist (a bunch of Clapton, Dire Straits, and other similar stuff) (by no means finished) A hard rock / bluesy playlist (extended) (by no means finished) Ultimate Quickies (an awesome hits playlist) (finished) Ballads and Gems (an awesome hard-rock themed playlist) (finished) Chillaxxxxxx (An awesome mix of 80s Genesis and The Police) (finished) Best of Led Zeppelin (self-explanatory) (always changing) Alternative Gangsta (an older mix of 90s and 00s alternative bands) (needs some maintenance) Metal Classics (an awesome mix of the classics) Steven Wilson is God (self-explanatory) (needs a lot of work, very old) The Great Prog (a random but flowing playlist that I made on the spot) (finished) "My List" isn't mine, but I'm following it. You can check my stuff out, or you can decide this is spam, in which case one of the admins will delete this post. |

I have a large prog playlist mostly of modern prog since 2000. https://open.spotify.com/user/1241861938/playlist/0VK2eKF32wOjb1mgUijXQd A smaller and more curated playlist based on the above (ie. favourites). https://open.spotify.com/user/1241861938/playlist/38be0pv7mfLQBjrk1RgroN I do find that the Spotify 'discovery' algorithms are getting better and more targeted to my tastes and one of the ways I use to find tracks I haven't heard previously.

I also use Spotify quite a lot and have created a few prog
playlists, mainly according to release years but there are others that I
enjoy a lot that you may be interesting.
Italian progressive rock: https://open.spotify.com/user/silvertree1969/playlist/631eHgYLXNId2tVsFjSeWD 70s prog rock (lots of obscure bands, excluding your basics ) https://open.spotify.com/user/silvertree1969/playlist/4SSfTjdFUCcigbGkr2n2RL French 70s prog rock: tracks under 5mn list https://open.spotify.com/user/silvertree1969/playlist/6BOoIRrU137FJQ6z36y8nR tracks over 5mn list https://open.spotify.com/user/silvertree1969/playlist/0MuKa9FXxivD79t99hGQmY Hope you enjoy them (I certainly do!) |
