Topic: Three versus Spectral Posted: May 02 2017 at 07:21
Just a bit more fun to see whether their respective last LPs before the odometer ticked onto 1980 should have been as they were.
Some people seem to have the odd idea that the 50+ minute long LP is (looks down nose) ... pop... as the tracks are under 10 minutes. But prog elitists are hardly prevalent... are we?
I thought Three probably should have been a 2 LP set. Some of the numbers sound as if they could really benefit from a more extended composition (or do they just sound truncated?)
Still Spectral Mornings no epics but we snobs don't dismiss this as mere pop. Both sublime albums, Genesis' a melodramatic, mysterious, occasionally a somewhat pessimistic album; Hackett's a more positive out look mood wise; even the sublime and mysterious title track.
I wonder if Tony liked Spectral Mornings...
and to ruin his day... In The Air Tonight... (kind of off topic but there we go, I know not what I say...)

Spectral Mornings. Genesis "And Then They Were Three" marked the beginning of Genesis decline into a more pop-oriented type of music, while Steve Hackett was beginning to rise in his musical development.

After Voyage Spectral Mornings is Hacketts best IMO.
ATTWT is an excellent album, I don't care what the haters say and I probably play it more, but I'll be objective here rather than subjective, for once, and vote for the more progressive and 'clever' album; Spectral Mornings.

I enjoy ATTWT, but Spectral Mornings is one of my favorite albums ever, so there you go.

Spectral Mornings. The best of Hackett. BTW, isn't Tigermoth a two part epic?
