Topic: Neopsychedelia with a twist Posted: May 02 2017 at 07:25
In addition to Dorothy's Ointment, which tbh never really left the ground, I thought I'd throw some twang and a little zing into the neopsych batter - see if prague people are better suited to this particular eclectic bag. We've got a little jazz, soul, Tishoumaren, electronics and semi-metal creeping in the back-door.
I'll just leave you with these peaches.
Childish Gambino
Tinariwen
f**k Buttons
Thundercat
Sun Araw
Sonny Simmons & Moksha Samnyasin
DeWolff
Floating Points
OM
Gonjasufi

While I'm into that downtempo lounge-y swing of the Gonjasufi, and I like the jazzy raga spliffin' riffin' Sonny Simmons & Moksha Samnyasin track, and that Om I really like, I'm going for the soul and groove of Childish Gambino's Me & Your Momma right now.
Childish Gambino and Gonjasufi are new names in my collection. I figured I needed to check out more contemporary psych soul after having binged on Thundercat's Drunk for a couple of months. Man I love that album. Reminds me of a black Ariel Pink (big compliment btw as I adore AP).

Gongasufi was one of the handful I knew here. I don't have the album, but I do like to surf youtube, and it came up on the side list when listening to some modern psych. Neglected to mention it, but I really like Floating Points as well. The person behind it has his doctorate in neuroscience and epigenetics, which makes him cool in my book. He left science to pursue his music career, I read.

I had ko idea but that does indeed make him even more cool. Also explains why he's suddenly chosen to infuse a little krautrock into his oevre; scientists love krautrock. It gives them interesting answers to questions they never knew exiwted and furthermore revealed in a manner that is wholly unprecise and loose. Opposites attract (which is why I am having an affair with Angela Merkel.).

Sun Araw is one of my favortie musicians of the 21st century. Love his completely unique mixture of krautrock, avant-garde, ans dub. And "Horse Steppin'" is a fantastic track. I like the new Thundercat, too. I need to check some of these names I have never heard of, too. Gotta love your polls for that.
