After a Tea Club show I got the guys in the band to jot down a few of their recommendations on the back of one of their posters for me and I figured I would share em with you all. I've still got to give more than half of these a listen, I kinda got stuck on Nick Drake - Pink Moon and repeatedly listened to it probably a solid 50 times.. incredible album and soundtrack to my spring :)

Anyways

I might be forgetting a little bit but I'm pretty sure that Cardiacs to Uni Ika Ali were recommended by Patrick McGowan.

Nick Drake to the Flaming Lips were recommended by Dan McGowan.

and Talk Talk to Jaga Jazzist were recommended by Joe Dorsey (their new keyboardist)

The other recommendations were from the guys' from Something Like a Monument (Zappa and Queens of the Stone Age)

and EVERYBODY recommended Pit Bull  LOL

Uni Ika Ali, Involved, and Until Sunrise are new to me. Will check them out, this is a fantastic list.

By the way, anybody who takes the plunge into Boards of Canada - and you should - shouldn't stop at Geogaddi. Be sure to listen to Music Has The Right To Children as well.

Why would you ask the band when you could go on here and ask us? :) Just because they play in a prog band doesn't make them prog experts. :P

Absolutely. Very eclectic, nostalgic, analog, '70s and '80s reminiscing IDM. One of the finest groups of the last twenty years.

If you like Jethro Tull(even in the slightest) I highly recommend the band Edensong. They are from NYC area so you might be able to check them out live. The first time I saw them was at the New Jersey Prog House(where I also saw the Tea Club).

Acronym for "intelligent dance music", basically just a catch-all for a few subgenres of techno that stem from Warp artists of the early '90s such as those featured on the Artificial Intelligence compilation, Aphex Twin on his two Selected Ambient Works albums, and most Autechre releases. A subgenre tag that makes little sense on paper but is handy in practice.

I saw Edensong at RoSfest, personal favorite show there. I hung out with  their drummer Tony and keyboardist Stefan  after their show and got recommendations from them also, written down somewhere, I'll share it when i find them hahaha

Interesting. I was at Rosfest also and met the keyboard player and bass player after the show and talked to them a bit at the hotel too. I believe I met you and your wife and friend at the hotel as well. Small prog world. Smile

I have never thought to ask musicians for recommendations but that's an interesting approach. Usually I just do my own research or go on here. It is a good way to find out what they listen to and maybe hear what some of their influences are.
