I was just listening to a live version of Awaken from 2003 on Youtube and had almost completely forgotten about Going For The One. Don't know if it's because I am over familiar with Close To The Edge but I think in many ways Awaken transcends Close To The Edge. It was certainly the last great Yes composition before things began to go off the rails with the crazy lineup changes.

OK start arguing about this.

There's probably at least 15 songs by Yes alone that I prefer, but since the track gets so much praise, I'll go give it another shot, although this might be the tenth time I've done so.

Very close (no pun intended)but I chose CTTE. GoD is actually my favorite Yes epic with CTTE next then either Endless Dream or Awaken.

Close to the Edge without even second-guessing myself (as I sometimes tend to do). Now, if you had pitted Close to the Edge against The Gates of Delirium I would really have to just throw in the towel as I wouldn’t be able to choose.

CTTE, but all Yes epics are fantastic
Two random guys agreed to shake hands. Just Because. They felt like it, you know. It was an agreement of sorts...a random agreement.

Awaken is pretty spectacular and couldn't be more different from CTTE---which says a lot about how great classic Yes is----CTTE is perfect and Awaken is near perfect and it got a lot of attention when JA said it was everything he wanted Yes to be----having said that ----CTTE is perfect. These two songs point out how second rate Yes west really is.

'Awaken,' for Wakeman's masterful piano playing, and for the work on the Swiss church organ. I must concede, however, that the Mander Pipe Organ solo on 'Close to the Edge' is a stellar part of that piece...

Best version of Awaken is from the House Of Yes dvd. Anyway, Yes wrote plenty of good - great compositions after they wrote Awaken. "In the Presence Of" in 2003 is almost as good as anything they wrote from their classic period.
