^^ I heard THN recently and I don't remember those elements. Speaking of sudden booming, last night I almost jumped from the couch because of the end of Sysyphus on Ummagumma LOL

To your credit, Sam, you definitely gave me a kick up the backside about getting onto `Stratosfear' a lot more! I'm quite familiar with it, but it's still `fresh' enough to me that I listen to it most times and find plenty of new little details I haven't remembered yet. But man those sudden booming chiming moments and the big volume increases freak me the hell out! I noticed similar elements on Peter Baumann's solo discs `Romance '76' and (I think) `Trans-Harmonic Nights' when I re-listened to them recently, so I think those bits are his doing on `Stratsofear'.

The title track is one of TD's finest compositions. It's utterly mesmerizing. I can't do any work if it's on, because it's one of those pieces in which I invest too much of my attention. It's a freakin' masterwork. There are guys today with a combined 3000-note polyphony burbling from their myriad virtual analog synths and retro-wave gear and they can't even get near three guys who had to make do with Mellotrons, monophonic Moogs and rhythm boxes that were mercurial and much more limited in, respectively, nature and efficiency compared to the near-infinite features modern synths come stocked with. LOL

New Age of Earth is a good album by Ashra, and Stratosfear is not in the Top Ten of my fav TD albums (flame retardant suit on) but I still give it the nod over NAoE.  Now if you said Sunrain, I would have to change my vote.
