Toehider is an Australian Progressive Rock/Metal band by vocalist Micheal Mills.

Some of you may recognize Micheal Mills from his roles on the last 2 Ayreon albums as The Father (The Theory of Everything) and TH1 (The Source). I recently started listening to them as Arjen plugged them in several interviews recently as his favorite up and coming progressive rock act. When I went to look them up here on PA, I was surprised to not see them listed so here I am.

Toehider has released numerous EPs (doing 12 in 12 months at one point) as well as full albums To Hide Her (2011) and What Kind of Creature Am I? (2014). The most recent release as of this posting is the EP Mainly Songs About Robots that was released in 2015. They have also toured with groups like Devin Townsend and have played at numerous Prog Rock music festivals in Australia and Europe. The current band lineup for live performances just recently changed to include Micheal Mills (Vocals & Guitar), Nick Delaney (Bass), and Thom Mann (Drums). All of Toehider's music so far can be found on the bandcamp linked below.

Toehider's sound is, as best as I can describe it, a unique mix between Prog Metal, Queen-ish vocals, and humor laden lyrics.

I feel his best output is from their most recent album What Kind of Creature Am I? which you can find in full below. The entire album was written and performed by Micheal Mills himself and I think he did a stellar job with it:

(Time stamps are also in the video description)

0:05 - You and I Both Lose (But 5 Wins) (The least proggy song on the album IMO but a good opener) 4:59 - Whatever Makes You Feel Superior (Love the closing section of this song) 11:17 - The Thing With Me (One of the weirder songs on the album but fun and mostly vocally driven) 15:31 - What Kind of Creature Am I? (An amazing showcase of Mills's vocal range and capability) 19:49 - Smash it Out! (The song title basically says it all) 21:54 - Spoilt for Choice (The mellow song on the album. Not one of my favorites) 24:54 - Whoa! (Probably my least favorite song on the album. Not much here IMO) 29:28 - Under the Future, We Bury the Past (Another average but good song) 36:36 - Meet the Sloth (An incredible 13 minute song that is easily my favorite on the album. This is the song that I think really shows off their ability as a progressive band) 49:11 - Geese Lycan (In case you wanted some growls to close out the album. A quick but heavy piece)
