Ok, I'll be that guy: Grunge (minus Alice In Chains)
Classical music isn't dead, it's more alive than it's ever been. It's just not on MTV.

Grunge bands that almost always sounded the same, especially the singers.

The proliferation of nu-metal, in particular growling vocals. The down tuning also got old real fast.
We all live in an amber subdomain, amber subdomain, amber subdomain.

Actually, the 90's spawned three good currents: grunge, post rocl and trip hop. Too bad none of them lasted enough to be still interesting a decade later.

Trip Hop was the only interesting thing musically from the 90's. It did become Dinner Party music quite quickly however.
I believe criminal charges should be bought against Britpop bands!
Yes, The Small Faces were great. We didn't need a-rooty-tooty-toooo jangly crap to emphasise this.
The Bluetones, Shed Seven, Cast and Menswe@r should be doing time.I think 90's guitar bands have dated worse than the hair metal from the 80's.
The first few years of the 90's were interesting but then journalists wanted to sell more copies of their rate, so Cool Britannia (How did that World Cup on home soil turn out again?) and Britpop happened.
And I feel it's not just the nineties. If Punk "killed off Prog" then where was the cultural shift from guitar bands?

Grunge was fine.....but flannel shirts and corduroy pants, skater clothes. Man if you take out grunge, the 90's really sucked a$$.
The 90's also gave us the loudness wars, excessive use of the volume knob with those phuckqed up CD remasters....The beginning of the end of high quality sounding music that we had in the 70's-80's.
