And it is! Still slightly prefer the somewhat wilder debut, but this one is easily their second best. Beautiful 70s Style RPI.

H, any thoughts on your top ten Italian releases of the year?
I've just picked up a last-minute catch-up selection of many of them - Moongarden, La Coscienza..., The Winstons, Ranest Rane, Reale Accademia di Musica, Overture and many more, so I've got some busy listening to do over the next few weeks! Was planning on grabbing the Seldon, FEM and Il Segno del Comando ones very shortly too |

I've been quite enjoying the latest Syndone album, H!
I wish they wouldn't jump between English and Italian on it...but at the same time the English is very convincing. But it's a very extravagant album with a nice fusion of orchestration and keyboards, and of course the singing is superb. |

I've never been a big fan of RPI (mostly due to the vocal stylings), but there is an instrumental prog band from Italy named "Colster". You can sample their music here: https://soundcloud.com/colster-music There are a couple of videos here on PA as well: https://www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=5571 |

I was a bit disappointed with the new Syndone, but maybe I should give it another chance. Mutazione is excellent though! I had high hopes for this one and it delivered.

Thanks for this list. I know just few of them. I will search for that discs on internet. In Italy nobody knows the name of these groups. They are completely unknown to the mass of people.

Hi! I used to live in Italy but it has been a while. Which groups would you say are currently best known in Italy besides the obvious ones from the 1970s epoca d'oro? Are any known outside of forums like
Arlequins or here? Feel free to break it
down into more than one category. From the touring information I have
seen, PFM has played the biggest venues of any Italian prog band in the
past several years and I wouldn't think any new group would come close
to that so perhaps we could separate classic prog from newer prog and also discuss some of the more prog-metal oriented
bands too for that matter like DGM etc. So anything from PFM and Banco to
Kingcrow, DGM, Labyrynth, La Maschera di Cera, L'Accordo dei Contrari
etc... Have
any Italian prog bands been able to make the FIMI albums chart since
the 70s and who plays the biggest clubs more often etc? Anyone else who might have some insight, please feel free to jump in! |

Michael of the Italian Prog team here...So everyone knows there's plenty of classic Italian prog releases from the Seventies period, but what about the modern era (or let's say the Nineties onwards)? The modern Italian prog-rock scene has not only had many great comeback albums from the big names of the genre from that country from the vintage period, but more importantly there's also a ton of younger bands carrying on the flame and offering some completely thrilling and vital new works that deserve a lot more exposure and recognition.

^ What a list! You have to be an insider, H, you mystery man!
Of that Sooner or Later list, I am most excited about La Fabbrica dell'Assoluto--what a great debut they released, that I love more and more every time I listen. From the Released list, the new Sezione Frenante album is really really good! The first track of the Pholas album is great, but the rest leaves me flat. From the Coming Soon list, the Latte e Miele 2.0 could be good! Thanks as always!

Well it's been quite a while, let's bring this back.
Here are two new bands recently added that you really need to hear: Combines classic elements with modern sound and sensibility. In the classic 70s vein, concept album about... you guessed it! Prometheus. From H's list above, to my ears Latte Miele 2.0 and Giardini Onirico were decent but somewhat disappointing. Melting Clock and Giorgio Piazza were both quite good! (Both soon to be added to the archive.)
