I prefer H.C.E...
He neither drank, smoked, nor rode a bicycle. Living frugally, saving his money, he died early, surrounded by greedy relatives. It was a great lesson to me -- John Barrymore

Maybe I should have included Grace for Drowning. One reason I didn't is because I haven't heard it(or Insurgentes for that matter). What do you guys think? How do these first two stack up against the two I included in this poll?

The Raven without a second thought. It is my favourite Steven Wilson album, including his Porcupine Tree ones. Hand Cannot Erase has good moments... in general it is good indeed, but it just isn't at the same level. As for his first two albums, I'm not really a fan of Insurgentes, though it's got it's moments and I do love some of the songs from it. On the other hand, you do have to check out Grace for Drowning... actually that one was my introduction to both Steven Wilson and Porcupine Tree, and it's got a very special sound that I thought he couldn't really top so soon when he announced The Raven (but indeed I was mistaken)... still, it's diffenrent, more subtle and less bombastic than The Raven (though it's got it's somewhat more instense/heavy moments). However, just check it out, it's a beautiful piece of art (written after his father passed away, if I remember correctly, so that mood must have permated the album indeed).

^Aye...the two releases are the closest to the mid 70's prog...think he must have got a lot of stick from some of his muso "friends" because I thought he may do a third even more grandiose/bombastic prog CD but he went for a "And then there were three" direction with his new release.......Anyway, I still have loads of 70's prog to explore (I have possibly 150 - unspun CD's from the era) - so I can get on with that...
I voted for Raven - some good moments on that CD......just more than the later release.

I like then just about equally. Same thing goes for Grace. His best solo album by far though is Insurgents imo.

I've listened to both albums. Definitely not a fan.
Two random guys agreed to shake hands. Just Because. They felt like it, you know. It was an agreement of sorts...a random agreement.
