Some great picks Ian. I'm a big fan of all of these except for the Japanese band who happen to be tied for first right now not so surprisingly.
I'm going with Thinking Plague and I've got their new one lined up for listening next week and I'm looking forward to it.

Like the other poll, there's one album that I don't have in my collection. In this case it's Radio Massacre International's Frozen North.

I like the six I do know very much, but I voted for Sing to God. For a long time, the U Totem album was my favourite modern "prog" album, and I still love it, especially for "Vagabonds Home". Miriodor is the first modern "prog" (feel like I have to use quotes) band that I got into.

I guess that Art Zoyd is too much a of a classic band for this poll which features more modern acts, but I'm too much of a fanboy to resist mentioning Art's Zoyd's Haxan and Faust. Shouts out to Hoyry-Kone, Zypressen, X-Legged Sally, Motor Totemist Guild, Boredoms, Tipographica, Bondage Fruit and Non Credo too. Lots of great stuff from the 90s.

Non Credo would be my 90's choice by far. Still love them. 

Seeing U Totem there made me want to relisten. I was kind of into them at some point - but no sorry that dissonant musical theatre-style simply doesn't do it for me anymore. Admittedly I seem to have grown tired or indifferent to most avant prog stuff released post mid 80's. Well atleast compared to a decade ago. If Moonsongs was the Thinking Plague-alternative it would have been a no brainer - the titletrack is absolutely amazing but its all great. Intriguing new-or no wave full of atmosphere that doesn't seem to feel like it has to be complex just for the sake of it. But I seem to be a minority of one with that preference. 

Blablabla - I don't really have a genuine favorite + haven't heard the last option.

Moonsongs is my favourite Thinking Plague album. I'd take any of the first three albums over In Extremis, and I would take a History of Madness over it as well. Good to see you around again, by the way.

My first TP album was In Extremis and I didn't like the band until I heard the Early Plague Years compilation. As for Non Credo, the only album of its that immediately connected with me was Impropera.

I like those albums a lot and I kind of liked them when I first heard them, but they didn't connect with immediately, unlike Inproprera which clicked straight away.   But then it's not surprising and didn't need saying because when I heard Improprera I was already into the band, so not sure why I mentioned it at all in retrospect. ;)

I tried to stay more modern but these are essentially lifted straight from my top albums list. Miriodor - Avanti & Cheer-Accident - Fears Draws Misfortune were the two albums that kicked off my exploration of all things Avant old & new.

Hoyry-Kone, X-Legged Sally, Motor Totemist Guild, & Bondage Fruit were all close to making the list.
