Dark Ages were founded in 1982 by Simone Calciolari which is the only remaining member from the original line-up. After some year of tuning up, the band released the first album “Saturnalia” in 1991. Then came a hiatus, and later in 1996 the band was reborn with a new line-up, and had a heavy live routine in the following years. The players turn-over prevented the unit from releasing original material, until in 2008 a stable line-up allowed to write and complete the first part of a rock opera called “Teumman”, released in 2011. The response has been very good, especially with progheads, and new fans were added to the old ones. In January 2012 Dark Ages were at work to record the second part of the rock opera, so “Teumman part two” was released at the end of 2013. Year 2014 has been an important one for the band, as they decided to stage Teumman as a real rock opera with the aid of an acting company and some actors/singers. It’s been a challenging and demanding project, but in the end, a dream come true.

At 2016 Roberto Roverselli (vocals) and Gaetano Celotti (bass) have become part of Dark Ages' family, after two members have recently left the ban, and announce the release of their new album “A Closer Look” for the coming March 11 th, 2017. On this date, a release party will be held at the Blocco Music Hall in S. Giovanni Luparoto (Verona – Italy).

After the release of the concept album “Teumman” set in a distant past, the new album is intended to be a warm warning, like a warm embrace after a stern scold , with the intent of awakening people from the numbness of everyday life and try to drive them towards each other.
“A Closer Look” is meant for people to open their eyes for take a closer look, a waking call for them to pay more attention towards what has become ordinary but should not be considered as such.

Gianni Della Cioppa, owner of the label Andromeda Relix, will publish the album and will take care of promoting it, side by side with GDC Promotion. Pick Up and GT Music will take care of the distribution.

The album was recorded between July 2016 and January 2017 at the Mago Studio in Avio (Trento – Italy) and mixed by Maurizio “Tachy” Fracchetti, always identified as the 6th member of the band, thanks to the fruitful partnership and friendly relationship formed during the years of activity of the band.
Mastering was done by Tom Waltz at the Waltz Mastering Studio in Boston (Massachusetts, USA) .
Artwork was very important too for the band and the 16 pages booklet with all the lyrics, was developed by Angela Busato (Kraken Promotion). It includes striking pictures by Elisa Catozzi.

“A Closer Look” also features with many different artists: the spoken parts in “Fading Through the Sky” are from Paul Crespel, leading representative of Street Photography in Italy; additional leading vocals in “Against the Tides” are from Claudio Brembati (Anticlockwise), Ilaria L’Abbate e Tiziano Taffuri, singers who have already worked with the band during the stage plays of the “Teumman Rock Opera". The saxophone, also in “Against the Tides”, is from the international artist Enrico “Benty Sax” Bentivoglio.
