Age is but a number eh? In many ways so but it is increasingly rare to witness artists hold onto that wreckless and slightly naive approach to their craft - which for me is one of the key aspects to art itself. I find many a music journos talking about big bands and how they now finally found their 'sound' to be code for a band that has been dishing out the same album for about a decade. I'm babbling sorry but it is a joy when elderly folks like yourself never lose that 'edge' and continue to hold onto that oh so fleeting glimpse of youth - the playfullness and the feck you-attitude towards anyone of anything that tells them differently. I guess one could say that about a lot of different musicians now that I think of it, but it is still rare to see such characteristics translated directly into the music. Or said in a slightly less esoteric manner: I find many if not most of the old prog legends wholly uniteresting these days - even my favourite bands have succumbed to this lethargic old man syndrome. So putting on an album that completely demolishes the evil karma that is old man syndrome and you are welcomed with sparks and fire flying out the speakers - well then you do a little dance, make a little love, get down tonight. Right?

I certainly don't feel like a young whippersnapper either. 35 and feel like 11 in my head but the body's nigh on 80. Slipped discs should be reserved for old politicians methinks.

Now that I've seriously gotten into them. This year's top three:

King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard (who are as prog as they come btw):

1 Sketches of Brunswick East (with Mild High Club)
2 Murder of the Universe
3 Flying Microtonal Banana

-eagerly awaiting their fourth 2017-album.

I've been listening to the Blade Runner 2049 soundtrack practically non-stop since it dropped; especially after the film came out. Actually, more like I've been engineering it, creating my own "Esper Edition," since the music's great but arranged imperfectly and lacking soundeffects and dialogue from the film...
